Great ideas! And then, of course, there's always that one member on the treatment team that always argues everything... and advocates for the most bizarre things....

Oh, so you've watched the DOC's "Crossing The Line" training video too!  Grin

And lets not forget the member of the staff that falls for a villain (actually a very real issue that I saw several people ruin their careers over). Nurse Smith falls for inmate Jones, and smuggles in an item of contraband (narcotics, cell phones, weapons, etc). But in this case, it might be a high range radio frequency device, a mini-force field generator, a EMP device to shut down the prison's power supply, etc. etc.

I didn't have to, I saw far to many employees get fired, or arrested for doing things I would have never dreamed of. My first week I saw a nurse get escorted out of the facility or getting involved with an inmate. I remember a person I thought I could trust get busted for bringing in steroids to inmates. And I'm the one that asked for the initial investigation.  Sad

I know what you mean... I meant the bit about the video in humor of course, but I saw much of the same thing when I worked my five years as a psyche aide. When I became a lead aide towards the end I tried my best to pass this on... of course with my speech about being extra careful when dealing with BPD clients... but its hard to believe how many times you see this. I mean, come on! Read the darn charts! It makes my jaw drop to see how many employees get involved with clients that have had a past of dealing violence out on to their loved ones... all in the very same chart that the psyche aide had access to.

But, that's all for that... this is a V&V forum and while I'm sure me and you could talk about this sort of thing all day that's part of another connection we share and I should probably keep things more V&V focused here.

That's one of the ideas I suggested, something similar to what Mystique did for Magneto in X-Men 2. I could see a charismatic villain convincing a staff member to smuggle in contraband items. Or better yet, someone like Cobra, or Brother Blood (they're DC characters that have cult like followings), have one of their cult members working at the facility, and have them assist in an escape.

But Dr Worldbeater is the victum!   All those people are out to get him.   AND he promised to use that plutonium only to do good!  Surely you can turn a blind eye to this small, and when I say small, I mean 84lbs, amount of highly radioactive and super posionous material just this once?    I mean,  c'mon, have a heart...

Actually that's exactly how a lot of these guys see themselves. It's never their fault, mommy and daddy didn't love them, they're victims of the system, they didn't have any other option, etc., etc.

LOL I figured that, and that is the thing I was goofing on.   I mean, aren't all the jails filled with innocent men and women?    I imagine that after many forty hour weeks  an employee may actually develop a rapport with some prisoners and feel empathy with them, enough to smuggle them the omni wave projector and allow them escape from Prision via the 29 and a half dimenision.

Jails, not so much, but prison is different. you see these guys, day in and day out for years. A lot of times you spend more time with them, than you do with your own family. For gaming purposes, I could see a manipulative villain slowly gaining the trust of a staff member, especially someone with low self-esteem to begin with. The next thing you know, Lord Null somehow managed to get his hand on a teleport ring, and some mini-photon grenades.

dsumner-
I agree, and of course you have to look at a lot of the inner workings of the Axis II spectrum- primarily the Antisocial Personality Disorder and at times, Borderline Personality Disorder features in the element of building up and de-valuing of the focused individual.
However, these are elements that I love to talk about but I've been hesitant to delve too much into in regards to keeping the fun element of V&V... I could easily make my works with V&V too much drawn into a perspective of psychological diagnosis and I try to avoid that as I think it could distract from the overall enjoyment of the game itself.

But, I have thought about presenting an Axis IV product down the road... there are only five axis areas in the APA's DSM standard... but what if there were a 6th? One for paranormal/supernature/superheroic aspects?

Yeah, I've seen tons of it in my years too.  It even happens in Jails, and no matter what kind of institution one is in, one has to be careful that 'Stockholm Syndrome' doesn't set in.

I work in a direct supervision Jail (meaning that the officers/deputies, as well as the counselors, nurses, MHPs, etc. are all right in there with the inmates), so for my 8 hour shift I'm in with the inmates for the entire 8 hours.

I've seen many people, some even with lots of experience, toss it all away.  Sadly, as an executive board member of our union, I get to hear the details on stuff you'd rather not even know about.   Sad

LOTS of ways to introduce contraband into a facility; not only staff, but visitors (even police, investigators, medical professionals, etc.).

One thing we've always done in our campaign (both for super prisons and even for paddy wagon-type transports) is the introduction of technology that effectively "turns off" superpowers/paranormal abilities.  Of course there's not much that can be done for characters with Skills or Magical Powers and the like...

I've worked at two different jails (one Regional Jail, and a city Jail), as well as a direct supervision prison. It's a lot easier to remain detached from these guys when you're separated from them, and they're locked down (as the jails are, or the seg unit in the prison). I've also worked everything from yard officer, to main control, to a team leader on both the DCT (the riot control unit), and tactical support unit (THe SWAT/hostage rescue unit), as well as being an instructor for less lethal munitions, fire arms, ASP baton, and few other items.

In game terms, I'd modify several items (ASP batons become Stun Batons), less lethal weapons fire stun rounds (Paralysis Ray Device),  or things like electro snares, special grenades, etc.

Its a bit easier to stay detached for me in correctional setting. In the mental hospital I still would stay detached but its considerably harder... many of the clients are basically "innocent"... they are merely victims of their own psychosis. Granted, others were quite manipulative but usually the more psychotic ones were the most likable, and many simply had no one to turn to. So it was hard to keep your business profile neutrality with these. Capable of doing, yes, but sometimes it sent you home at night feeling miserable about the weight of the world... if that makes sense.

The Ultimate Spiderman: Sinister Six storyline was well done with this.  Especially the way Doc Ock played the doctors.

The Arkum Aslyum TPB was very good as well.

Two very good comics which line up well with this discussion.

There's the episode of Batman: The Animated Series, where the Joker basically "creates" Harlequin (she was one of his doctors in Arkham Asylum).

5. Reduced Charisma: -5

Weight: 170 lbs.                  Basic Hits: 4
Agility Mod: -                     Strength: 15

Origin/Background: Not much is known about Sniper's background, but there are plenty of rumors circulating, about how he received his training from some of the finest military instructors in the world. But even those stories can't explain where he manged to acquire his armor, hi-tech rifle, or seemingly endless supply of specialized bullets.

Combat Tactics/M.O.: Sniper's preferred method of operation is to study his target for several days, analyzing it, and and looking for any patterns of behavior that may emerge. Once he's established his target's M.O., he'll lay in wait, looking for an opportunity to take that perfect shot.

Personality/Character Traits: A loner, if Sniper was any colder, he'd be a machine. He's all business, totally lacking any sense humor. It's rare for him to utter more than a few words. All he seems to take interest in is his work.

Origin/Background: Dr. Wright was always a bit high strung, but as long as his research showed promise, his supervisors tended to ignore his rather abrasive personality. That was until the accident. How could these cretins possibly think that he had anything to do with the accident, surely it was one the many incompetent staff members in his employ. And now these buffoons dared threaten to censure him, this was the final outrage.

As he stormed through the now wrecked hallways of his research lab, he noticed something strange, his feet were no longer in contact with the floor. He found this new development quite intriguing, and wondered what else had changed. And wit that thought, he set off to explore his new found abilities.

Combat Tactics/M.O.: Graviton's prefers not to engage in direct HTH, as he feels it's beneath someone of his intelligence to engage in such activities. He'll preferred method of attack, is to keep his opponents at bay, either increasing their weight to the point, where fliers, are pinned to the ground, or canceling gravity, and allowing others to float harmlessly, in the air, while he taunts, and berates them.

Personality/Character Traits: Even before he gained his abilities, Adrian was a narcissistic megalomaniac, who belittled his coworkers, and subordinates, and people in general. Now that he's gained powers, he's ten times worse.

Got motivated and made a couple of new additions to the prison's inmate population. I've got ideas for several others that I'll eventually get around to posting. Until then, let me know what you think of the new guys.

These guys are both really cool; beautiful images and cool write-ups!

From Sniper's Combat Tactics/M.O., Weakness Detection would be a good fit for this character.

Great work - thanks for sharing these with with us, D!

Name: Masterson, Ronald
Alias: Thunderboy

Origin and Background: Ronald "Ronny" Masterson, or Thunderboy as he is now known, is quite simply put, insane. Given his powers by Loki, the Norse god of mischief, he's slowly lost his grip with reality. Basically Loki’s goal is to have Ronald run amok, causing as much havoc and destruction as possible. He knows that Ronald will eventually be stopped, but until then, he plans on sitting back to enjoying the show.

Combat Tactics/M.O.: Thunderboy’s primary tactic is to smash everything in sight. If confronted, he’ll lead off with a lightning bolt, and then begin swinging away with his hammer. He’ll use his teleportation to get behind his target, and strike them from the rear. He’ll use his “Thunderclap” to inflict collateral damage to the surrounding area, shattering glass, smashing buildings etc. He’ll then fling debris in every direction, until he tires, or becomes bored.

Personality/Character Traits: Ronald is basically a 15 year old, mentally unstable sociopath with superpowers. His powers have severed whatever links he still had with humanity. He now lives for the next time he can inflict harm on others.
