Levels and Legends

The levels of characters in the Avengers conversion thread gave me an idea.

What level would you be before you were considered a legend?

I see most people when they stat out someone like Captain America they put him about 20th level.   That is the benchmark for legendary in my mind.

I would put Cap at 20th, someone like Spider Man around 15th,   Cyclops and most X Men around 9 or 10.

New guys like say Dynamo 5 would be 2 or 3.

I tend to base levels on previously published stuff, look how high Jack Placed the Teen Titans. So for characters like Cap, I'd put him in at 25.

Long time characters like Bats, Supes, the Hulk, Iron Man, Mr. Fantastic, Green Lantern (Hal), Green Arrow come in at 20.

The New Teen Titans, Original X-Men, and Most of the Avengers in the 15-18 range.

The New Mutants, and most of the DC characters created after Crisis, like Blue Beetle (Ted Kord, Booster Gold), and Characters like Vixen, Superboy, Wonder Girl, and Kid Flash in the 8-13 range.

On the low end, characters like the New X-Men, Young Avengers, and current batch of Teen Titans in the 1-5 level range.

If you want to be a legend in V&V, experience is important but exposure is the key.

SPOILER ALERT

SPOILER ALERT

The module Alone Into the Night references a serial killer who mysteriously disappeared at Level 5 but remained a legend decades later (having murdered 20 people). Other modules have villains of much higher level who no one ever heard of before. You wonder how they got so much experience and remained unknown.

In comics, I keep thinkin' back in the day when the new Captain Marvel (Monica Rambeau) became very popular within the world of comics and among fans after bein' around for only a short time because she hooked up with the Avengers and had powers too cool.

As for assignin' levels to characters, it depends far and wide how much of a stickler who are with eXperience points. The merry mutants of Marvel fought the  Brotherhoodlums and Hellfire Clubbers again many, many times without catching but one of them. Do you give them eXtra credit for tryin' or give them a zero-incomplete and until they finally pass the test?

Agree with DSumner's assessment.

Superfriend, I give out partial experience for battles resulting in no captures.
The experience was earned from the act of fighting, the way I see it.
