A gathering of Heroes

Well now that e have formed our official Super-team in John's campaign it's time for us to come up with a name.

Since we were formed by C.H.E.S.S. I thought I would look to tactics and traditions from the ancient game of chess to see if I could find some possible names that wouldn't sound anything like all those superhero teams already out there. Here's what I got so far:

The Knights of Caissa

Caissa is the Greek Goddess of Chess according to Wikipedia. Seems fitting enough. If we don't like that name for the team I think Caissa would be a good name for the HQ computer

The Immortal Game

Has a nice ring to it and refers to one of the greatest chess matches ever played in 1851 by Adolph Anderssen and Lionel Kieseritzky. Anyway it alludes to greatness and feels as though it has some classical resonance.

Alekhines Gun

A very unusual name for a super team to be sure. This refers to a very powerful Chess tactic of positioning a Queen behind 2 consecutive rooks. A good metaphor for how chess uses our team.

Fortress

Another decent if not groundbreaking name. Refers to an impenetrable defensive chess strategy which usually forces a draw.
Anyway that's as much original stuff I can come up with right now.

So, Dark Warrior and Marshall Strong, any thoughts?

And I thought Wally was nuts.  Shocked

OK, kidding. Can't yet go with any of those names but I do like naming the computer Caissa and maybe the building itself Fortress.

CHECKMATE

Once you are facing us, you have no choice but to give in.

Nah, that sucks.

OK, I was kind of serious with CHECKMATE but I'm not a comic reader so I may put in something that's already used. Maybe it would be better off if a name actually came out of an advenute at some point. We can keep thinking about it but something spontaneous may come up also.

CHESS didn't form this team, Phillip Man did.   He wants a nice flashy, catchy name that he can slap on a lunch box.

If Phil wants to get more publicity out of the whole thing he should make it a contest for the people. The winner gets the name and a free week stay at the fanciest hotel in Science City. Phil keeps the naming rights and proceeds from it in return. Personally I like The Gaurdians since it was the name of the group I started in my own Universe.

MetaForce might work.

It has enough to satisfy everyone. It could be the name of a saturday morning cartoon and at the same time it incorporates Meta for use by the CHESS propaganda machine when talking about your friendly MetaHumans.

How about we name the group

RUBICON

Meta Humans are here.
We are among the first to cross that "river" and there is no going back.
I think it's a good name for the world's first Superhero team and to mark the birth of a new era in history. Also has a hint of danger as in "Oh my God what have we done?".

Close to "The Magnificent Seven." I know I'm dating myself, but that was a good movie.

You just don't get tougher than Yul Brynner.

OK, well maybe The Oni, but it's close.  Wink

If we were to vote Paul's character as the Leader we could call ourselves

Magnum Force

Otherwise I'm still going with MetaForce. There's always that option of having something pop up during a gaming session.

You know something like " and I would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for those Meddling Kids".....

Our high school V&V superhero team was "the Sentinels".  Always liked that name.
