The First humanoid life arouse billions of years ago.  It has been so long ago, their home world was lost, and their star has burnt out.  They have adopted a new world, one engineered for perfection.  They call this world Gygax, and its location is a secret known only to others of their race.
The Eldari travel the galaxy in huge cathedral like ships of stained crystal.  Each ship is a world unto itself.   The Eldari spend their time in sublime appreciation of all that is beautiful.  They are wise and beautiful.  Their voices steer their ships with songs.  To the Eldari, either you are perfect and beautiful, or you are not worth their time.
They have engineered servitor races to handle the ugly things in life.  First they made the Dwaroi to work and labor for them.  The Dwaroi are the second race.   Almost as powerful and nearly as wise, but by far not as beautiful as the Eldari.  The Dwaroi are backs that build the universe.  They are the Makers of Worlds.
Then the Eldari made the Gnomoi.  These are the planners, the thinkers.  The Eldari left the Galaxy to this race as its caretakers while they stepped back to enjoy beauty without interruption.  The Gnomoi planned and the Dwaroi built.   And the Galaxy moved with mechanical precision.
To battle the Ugly, the Gnomoi created the Orrush.  The Orrush fought and died in the name of the Beautiful.
In the name of the Eldari, the Gnomoi seeded worlds with life.  Wherever they went, they spiced in some of the Eldari’s beauty into the ugly that found.  Some worlds, the beauty took hold, others it withered and died.
If the world took the Beauty the Gnomoi would then return in time to tend the Beauty.  They would test the beauty, prune it, shape it and ultimately, harvest it.
Then one day, the Gnomoi left.  They took with them their tools to places unknown.   The Dwaroi were asked to increase their responsibilities.  They wanted more freedom and reward.  A civil war happened.  A mighty Galactic War was fought, and the unthinkable happened.   Some Eldari were killed.  Faced with their own mortality, the Eldari compromised.     The Edari are still the Creators, and the Dwaroi are the First Peoples.   Among the Seeded, there is talk that the Eldari were humbled and that its now the Dwaroi that rule.  That the Eldari now only contemplate their eventual death while the Dwaroi labor without restraint.  Others say that the Eldari showed the Dwaroi the reason for the Galactic Garden, and that cosmic truth showed them the wisdom in their works.   Maybe the truth is a marriage of these two rumors?  What is true is that both the Eldari and the Dwaroi still work together,  seeding, testing,  pruning, and harvesting their garden.   The only thing not known is why.

After encountering a dark eldari,  Gary explained what they were to Captain Warlock.

Billions of years ago, the Eldari encountered a creature from Beyond.  This evil creature infected some Eldari with its own evil.   It is said that it is  a germ that lives in spiders. Others say it is a great spider.  What ever it is, its spreads by infection.  This germ spreads a degenerative diease that makes one a  drow, or outcast.
The diease not just spreads the contagion, but also a religion.   The germs are called Lolth, and Lolth worship may be the only faith spread by infection in the known universe.
When infected,  the eyes become sensitive to light, and like a spider, one wants to burrow deep, and hide and spring on prey.
The rather prudish and erudite Eldari, when infected by Lolth, become rather randy and aggressive.   They lose their calm longevity and become brutish, shortlived*, schemers.
Drow can befound almost everywhere, but they are hard to locate.  They burrow and live underground.  They are smart, but since being outcast from proper Eldari society, they don't have the technology that is associated with that bright race.   Instead, due to their time underground, they have, on occassion, learned secrets.  These secrets are sometimes buried for good  reasons, but  the Drow are arrogant, and fear nothing.    And each Drow feels the constant whispering of the germs in their blood. Germs that speak with the voice of Lolth, the Mother Of Spiders.  She is always pulling at the webs,  weaving her coocoon through out  the universe.  No race, not even the Illithids, are as universally hated and feared like the Drow.  Luckily the tribes are as eager to fight amongst themselves as they are with anyone else, or they would be unstopable.

Then I am quite happy being immune to almost all known Diseases. I shudder to think what would happen if this Disease were to infect other races or if it is even possible. There must be more to this than the Disease state. Unfortunately my present incarceration stops me from reaching Gary. This paints an even more confusing picture to The Faith.

So John,

Now I have to ask. How does it spread? What are the early symptoms and signs?

Lets say a skinny young red headed male in the 1860's was to contract this disease. How would he act in the very early stages?
