Is everyone else having issues opening the character sheets? I had a story idea and need not only Rampart but other player character sheets for reference and cant open any of them. I'm sure Dom has them saved somewhere (please be right - lol) but was just curious if I was just me. Thanks

Weird... I'm getting the same problem.. though the most recent upload of Thunderbolt displays properly.

But don't sweat it.. I got a copy of all the characters that were posted as well.  If you want just pm a e-mail address and I'll mail them all to you.

OOC: For those who follow such things. The actions and abilities represented in the Journal at this time assume Rampart has improved his Strength and Endurance one point each in the year since the Protectors were last seen  Cool

That makes his strength a 37 and his Endurance a 13... right?  Does that make much of a difference?  They are not stat break points.

Aha! It affects flight speed and thus "Trans-luminal" Hyper-flight speed too! Sweet! Smiley

Very cool!

True. Actually the Strength point would bump him into the next damage level on the hand to hand chart, so maybe that's not a good idea ... just yet Wink

Oh..yeah.. increased carry capacity equals potential increased base HtH damage.. eek!  Meh.. you can never inflict too much damage.. but perhaps for his lvl3 training he works on learning to pull his punch with a bit more skill or accuracy?

After all 3d10+2 is not ...world-shattering.. Smiley

I have seen a character who can inflict 1d10{Base HtH}+1d12{Flame Power - Burst Into flames "Plasma Aura"}+1d20{Natural weaponry carrier attack - Power Blast "Plasma StarSword"}+6{Natural Weaponry}+3 Damage Mod!

[1d10+1d12+1d20+9] That's a lot of potential damage!

Yes but I purposefully created Rampart in a manner to make sure he kept within the power bandwidth of the characters already existing in the campaign. No one likes playing with a Mary Sue who overpowers the team so that their characters rarely get a chance to shine.

Hyper flight doesn't step on anyone's toes. Diesel should be our top notch hand to hand slammer. Maybe if Ramparts Armor isn't  all that great a defense, Dom will allow me to upgrade his Weakness Detection or Adaption to a full power someday.

When the campaign gets on its feet again Wink

Hmm.. I can see your point...

Thunderbolt maxed out and "out for blood" could do...1d8{Base HtH}+2d8{Lightning 'Electrical' Control "Carrier Attack" - Electrify Body}+1d6{Sword-Katana}+1 Damage Mod!

Total: 3d8+1d6+1... not something to overlook...

But yes... let us keep praying someday we will play again! Smiley

Yes your character approaches the Mary Sue level wth all the other abilities added to that. Something to ponder when building a character and you care if the other players have equal time to shine

I get a font error with the document and all I see are the words Diesel and Identity on the first page and Powers/Abilities 1. on the second page.

I also see an error about unsupported Type 2 Font which seems like it might relate to other kinds of problems, but the first question is: did the fonts get embedded in the document? (I'm using Windows 7).

well here comes background on new character

Real Name: Takoda Longshadow
Occupation: Adventurer
Identity: Secret
Legal status: US Citizen with no criminal record, still a minor
Place of Birth:  Phoenix, Arizona
Date of Birth: April 13, 1999
Marital Status: single
Known relatives: Maiya (mother)
History:  Maiya was a single mother trying to raise her son in Empire City. On what little she could earn added to what she got from welfare. Unfortunately she was tricked by GENOME into getting some of thier "pre-natal care drugs". The money was good. Tadoka was born pre-mature and a bit small. But in his  pre teen years became an avid skate boarder and played a lot of different sports with kids in the neighborhood. The only side effect from the GENOM that was ever recorded with him was the fact that his brown eyes that he was born with turned bright blue at age 12. Since that seemed to be the only change,GENOM stopped watching. Recently Tadoka was on his way home when he encountered what the police later called a "Booster Party gone bad" He was escorted home. The next morning he awoke to find himself not quite himself. He had grown overnight! His mother enraged at finding a stranger in her home cahsed him out. Now he spends some days in shelters or just hiding on the street as he learns to control his new powers. He has also had to run from what he calls "men in black" who seem to know a lot about him and his mother.  Maybe the Protectors can help?
It is indeed likely that GENOM was indeed watching the children of these mothers for a time but when it seemed all were just healthy children and that the worse effects were only limited to the mothers... GENOM stopped paying attention... maybe.
Height:   4' 6"         Weight: 100 lbs.
Eyes: Blue               Hair: Black
Strength level:  Longshadow possesses the ability to grow in height. While larger he seems to be a bit more resistant to injury. So far the tallest he has reached is 18' in height.  He also has what he calls x-ray hearing. His sense of hearing is very acute.

Well.. Thunderbolt has ...some issues.  He is himself an abused child and looks on life as a constant series of battles to be fought or lost.  So he is always trying to be 'ready for a fight' with weapons and or tactics to handle as many situations as possible... hence his predilection to always having weapons on him in one manner or another.  He's..sadly.. kinda violent.  He does care about people but not much about those who harm the innocent... they are targets and need to be punished to see that sort of behavior has PAINFUL results! "JUSTICE LIKE LIGHTNING!!", with an extra dose of punishment to emphasize the message if you didn't get the point the first time!

{Shrug}.. he's not the best of personal role-models.  The good thing is.. he knows he's fucked up... and is trying to be a better person... but back-sliding is so easy to that street mentality of~ 'If someone threatens you with a fist fight... you bring a club, if they bring a baseball bat.. you bring a knife, if they have a knife you pull a gun.'  He tries to follow a code of honor to meet force with equivalent force.. and let the foe escalate before reciprocating in turn.  But some times he just doesn't get the balance right when punishing the criminal and wicked.  He tries to follow the wisdom of the Book of 5 Rings and many times quotes Sun Tsu in his conversations.  He tries to model his actions around honorably meeting all challenges and being ready to meet any and all foes.. like a Ronin Samurai.  He doesn't always meet those lofty ideals.. but he is trying.

He's a work in progress, but his advice to a new young hero would be 'Don't be like me.. be better than me...'

Zeus I haven't bothered to run the numbers on the PDF but a thought. Using standard rules and given your characters power profile you have 5% chance of hitting something at the height of 9ft and higher. Megalopolis character has similar issues with Armor A and the weight increase.

Obviously you can mitigate some of that with the old school pick up big object and smash bad guy with area effect but that is very environmentally dependent. I'd suggest working with Dom and/or Majestic on a campaign friendly way of working the character concept.

And of course if you knew this already I call "my bad" and walk on brother Wink

John, Ya know I hadn't thought of that!  Well if nothing else that gives me lots of room for development. So  Dom , Majestic hey  fellas how do yo want to run this mechanically? I'm fine with whatever I did not see any special rules under house rules for the growth power

you know i was thinking it might be interesting to rp the problems of adjusting to different sizes (you rarely see that in comics) so not being able to hit stuff at that height would make sense. Will just have to wait and see what the GM decides so far I'm liking the little guy

Yeah, Ranger's right.  There's a huge problem with V&V Size Change: Larger characters, when done straight per the RAW.  The only way they can ever hit anything is to get really lucky (i.e., they have a 5% chance of hitting, which sucks, especially for a PC) or you balance it out by giving them a Heightened Agility, but that can end up swinging things the other way (and make them TOO strong).  I'd work with the GM (Dom), and maybe figure out a way to give him a Heightened Expertise or something.  Either that or you have to go around picking up huge objects, which aren't always readily available (and imagine how you would feel if your brand new RAM truck got picked up and used as a brawling weapons!) Um.. Majestic.. I know you are a veteran of this system... but I've read the size change power and it says nothing about the larger character being less accurate?  It does say his ranges are increased by his size multiplier as well as the ranges of powers used to target him... but I can't find anything about his personal accuracy suffering.  Could you please point out where that is?

I mean even IF you take his height multiplier as a range multiplier for his attacks against smaller foes... normal melee range is what 1" {effectively adjacent}... but you don't take ANY range penalties to target a foe within 30" distance.

So.. he'd have to have like a height multiplier of x30 to start taking range penalties for melee attacks and would need at least a height multiplier of x61 before he'd even take a -2 hit in melee with an adjacent target due to range!

Am I missing something here?  Or is he taking Agility penalties for his height or weight somehow?

my rule book is the old paperback 1982 edition. I can't find anything either ,but that's irrelevant. As a science guy who likes some real science in my superhero world I understand that targeting at larger sizes is just 1 of the issues once we suspend some laws of physics. No matter, However Dom decides I'll work with it. If that means I'm just a shield for a while that's fine. I am currently re-reading The Physics of Superheroes by James Kakalios he is a proff at the University of Minnesota and the chapters on size change both smaller and larger are pretty cool. Anyway whatever you decide is fine by me I'll work with it. It's a power I don't think I've ever seen any one role play so Challenge Accepted !

Check the Agility Modifier Chart for a characters weight. Section 2.6 B

I didn't really bother looking close earlier but since it's being discussed. The Agility 16 is great but as he grows in height it decreases until about at 18' he has a 4 or 5 Agility at which point the character is at a -4 to hit. 2d10 is great damage but if you can't hit then ... well. Ive always liked the modification of the Base Hits not effecting the Hit Points balanced by the Agility Modifier no longer being in effect either.

Just some food for thought I'm sure you guys will figure it out

Now I feel like a dufus. There it is in the book duh. Well maybe I can train just to offset or what will have to see what Dom suggests. I may just be a shield for  a while (Not like I haven't done that in a game before right Spyder Wink )

Aha! Thanks Ranger.. that's just what I was looking for!

So.. Avatar.. did you apply the +2 Agility to your Stats because of your low weight as I assumed.. of is your boy a natural 16 Agility before the modifier?

I'm asking cause Statwise you are under the curve for the team... Thunderbolt has 74 points in stats with a level 1 train of +1 STR for a total of 75 points in stats {meaning his training at level 1 was for STR which he got when he leveled to level 2; at level 2 he is training for +1 INT...which he will get at level 3.  Just to derail any confusion on that}.  Longshadow only has 67 points in stats.  Longshadow are under-stated... but he is also younger than Thunderbolt; you may want to ask Dsummer about that cause if you have a 16 stat base... and then get a +2 due to your low unpowered weight... with some extra stat points to spend you might just offset his Size large Agility penalty for his weight juggling stats around a bit!

Just a suggestion! Smiley

you know i  didn't do points I just rolled stats but looking again at character generation section here I see I should have done that route. If Dom is cool with it I'll just put points in dex and train toward HTH while grown whatever  he deems best

Looks like Ranger already got you the answer. Smiley

Pretty much what he posted: I'm fond of the "doesn't suffer any Agility minus from increased weight" as a Mutant Power/Body Power, whatever, myself.

Take a look at any of the really big characters in any of the V&V supplements: Mountain Man, Mongo, etc., and you'll see how ineffective they are.  Pretty much all of them can hit their opponent with a roll of "1", but anything else they roll will be a miss (with the possible exception of when they grab something huge and use it as a brawling weapon).

Oh, and one other really annoying thing about getting an Agility of 1 (or 3, or whatever).  It means your character will only get to move once every turn.

So he'll have to wait a long, long time in combat for his turn to come around, all to get the opportunity to miss again.  Wink

Well if Dom doesn't have a problem with it I guess  I could use Body Power so as not to suffer dex penalties for weight. Yes I know that will limit his combat actions but so far I am enjoying the story telling going on here and lets face it not every hero is a combat machine I look forward to developing the youngster in story so I'm just going to go with the body power Idea or wait and see how Dom wants to run it

I have a suggestion...

Since your Mutant Power is only doing one thing.. that is making you look adult aged when using any level of size increase... yeah~ technically that IS a power but kinda lame for a full blown power.  Why don't you do this.. your mutant power not only makes you look like an adult.. but it also allows you to offset your increased weight from size with carry capacity at your will.

So.. if you were to grow to your full maximum size {31'5"}... you could have a Carry Capacity of 75,460 lbs, with a weight of 34,300 lbs. for a Agility penalty of -16 and a damage of 5d10 OR you could expend 34,000lbs of carry capacity to offset your weight penalties for Agility your still weight 34,300 lbs but you'd have no Agility penalty and your carry capacity would be only 41,160lbs with a damage of 4d10.  You could adjust how much weight from carry capacity agility penalties you want based on how heavy you are for a reduced amount of carry capacity and a lesser amount of basic Hand to hand damage.  But if you needed to be really strong or fight something your size you could forgo offsetting your weight with carry capacity and inflict more damage and truly be a mighty titan indeed!

I think this would be an elegant way to not cripple the character and yet limit his power on a case by case basis.

Also if you put his remaining stat points into Agility {...which since you rolled random your base agility is 16 so based on your non-size increased weight your agility should be modified to an 18} your agility will be a 24! Even at your max weight of 34,300lbs your would STILL be a 6 {22 Agility unmodified by weight -16}!

And remember a 22 Agility at you maximum weight is a +4 Accuracy to any attack you make.  That's pretty awesome if you ask me! Smiley

Avatar, I'll work up a PDF version of you character sheet this weekend, and post it here. As I've done in the past, I may make slight mods to specific powers. Once it's done, I'll shoot it to you for a once over before actually posting it to the the boards. Ranger and T-Bolt, the same goes for both you guys.

That's actually a pretty cool looking suit.

I know from discussion with other players the problems inherint in combat and all for a growth character. I have listed some ideas on how to handle and will take whatever is decided. Right now I have no other rpg outlet and enjoy the players here. I also have no problem with not having a lot of combat actions if need be. Looking forward to playing with you guys again
