Farewell to Oreo

Hey Guys,

Sorry I dropped off the face of the Earth again. After recovering from being ill, Kim and I noticed that Oreo was not.
He was very lethargic and not wanting to eat. after seeing him vomit we scheduled an appointment with the vet. He was held at the vet's for 5 days and it was then confirmed that his kidney's had failed and his condition was terminal.

We brought him home Wednesday. Thursday and Friday, friends and family came for a last cuddle and lick on the nose. Kim and I held him and fed him what he could keep down, walked with him outside on our shoulders so he could watch the birds and sniff the air and did our best to comfort him.

On Saturday April 3rd,2014 we held him one last time as he slipped away to a place of peace.

I have buried other dogs before.
I have buried friends and family.
I have watched the light go out of a loved one's eyes.....
but I have never felt such complete and overwhelming pain as I do in the absence of this dog. He was the embodiment of pure love and unconditional acceptance. He was a fixed point in our sky and we are lost on the sea of our life without him.
I know those of you who have pets and especially Elle and John, will be able to understand and empathize.

I'm not sure when I will be able to attend another game session but I will try to keep in touch.

Erik

That just made me cry.

I am so sorry Erik.  I know how much that pup meant to you.  You gave him a good life and he'll be waiting for you when it's your time to cross over the Rainbow Bridge.  Right now he's running like the puppy he once was, free of age, pain and illness.

Happily wagging his tail as he tells others what wonderful human parents he had.  He was lucky to have met you, just as you were lucky to have him in your lives.

And maybe one day you will be able to find it in your heart to rescue another pup who needs to feel love and security in their life.  And you can call him or her, Loki!!  Wink

Thank you all for your kind words and understanding. I really cannot express how helpful it is right now....

and Elle...A very special thank you to you.

Your words brought a smile to Kim for the first time since Oreo passed.

I owe you one.

Thanks,

Erik

Eric,

I'm very sorry for your loss. It's never easy saying goodbye; I still remember the night my nephew's previous dog, Goofy, had to be sent on her way. She was the biggest pain in the ass, but she was also the most loving, loyal companion my nephew had. Take comfort in knowing you gave him a home and loving family that was there for him until the very end.

I am happy my words were able to make her smile.  Loss of a furry child is so hard.
