SUICIDE SQUAD CAST CONFIRMED, LETO IS JOKER, SMITH DEADSHOT

BY SCOTT COLLURAThe cast of Warner Bros. and David Ayer’s adaptation of DC Comics’ Suicide Squad has been revealed. The star-studded roster will include:

Jared Leto as The Joker
Will Smith as Deadshot
Tom Hardy as Rick Flag
Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn
Jai Courtney as Boomerang
Cara Delevingne as Enchantress

Many of these names had been rumored for the project in recent weeks, but now we have confirmation on their casting. Suicide Squad, which focuses on a team of super villains who are brought together by the government for the toughest of missions, is scheduled for release on Aug. 5, 2016. Production is scheduled to begin on the film in April in Toronto.

Jesse Eisenberg has also been in talks to play Lex Luthor in the film, reprising his Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice character and linking that movie to Suicide Squad, but as of now it is unclear if he will appear in the latter film or not.

“The Warner Bros. roots are deep on this one,” WB President Greg Silverman said in a statement. “We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under David Ayer’s amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero.”

The character of Amanda Waller still needs to be cast. She is the sort of Nick Fury figure who brings the team together (and was previously played by Angela Bassett in Green Lantern). Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, and Oprah Winfrey are all said to be on the studio’s short list for the part, with Winfrey being their first choice.

Wow this sounds godawful just based on the cast* to date and inclusion of the Joker.

* Except for Margot Robie**.

I thought the version they did on Arrow rocked. But this being the movies, it likely won't come across half as good (cause it seems the tv shows tend to portray the villains better than the movies have, imho)

Hey, Captain America made Batroc the Leaper look bad ass.

But...this is a DC/WB project. Which means they will eff it up beyond recognition just like they have done with every super hero film they have attempted since 1992. I have zero confidence in their filmmaking at this point. It's more focused on "let's be edgy, nice super heroes are passé, Superman kills people, look how bad ass he is, he doesn't even wear trunks over his bodysuit!"

Margot Robbie even made Pan Am seem good, though.

Not really different than the one that was shown at comic con. Still not really sold on this being any good, especially when Deadshot/Will Smith says "Let's go save the world". That is so out of character for Deadshot, it's just ludicrous.

Beats me. I find it hard to comprehend a lot of decisions that come out of Hollywood, to say nothing of the ones that come out of major comic publishers (Steve Rogers: Agent of Hydra, anyone?).

Retcons should be treated like time travel story lines. The editor in chief should reject 90% of them out of hand. An additional 5% should be met with open mockery. The remaining 5% should, under no condition, make a character's entire history a lie.

If Marvel is actually going to make this "real" and not have it be a clone, shape shifting alien, or something else that can eventually be rectified (including the possibility that Cap being a sleeper agent is itself some kind of hypnotic suggestion or mind control) then I hope they enjoy everything they have coming to them from the fans. I hope a future writer decides to retcon this retcon out of existence.
