I'm including the X-Men who Prof. X. recruited in X-Men #94 plus Phoenix who joined in #101.

I prefer the old Colossus, slim and sleek and not muscle bound.  Built like an Olympic gymnast instead of a power lifter.

Nightcrawler.  Most complex of the bunch and someone I would like to have as a friend.

Didn't Thunderbird get killed off as redundant to Wolverine after a handful of issues?

I voted for Nightcrawler as he seems most interesting of the bunch. An urbane German monster showboater who'd rather romance than fight.

Doesn't mean that he wasn't my favorite. Smiley
I read somewhere that Wolverine was going to be killed instead, but that Byrne didn't want to kill the only Canadian.

Now would this poll have has zero Wolverine votes if it were done in the early '80s? I never liked him much but it's hard to believe he has zero votes.

I actually still like Wolverine, but he's been way overdone by Marvel.

Thunderbird died in X-Men #95, after appearing only in Giant-Size X-Men #1 and X-Men #94. I always thought it was a weak explanation on Claremont's part to say that Thunderbird died because he was redundant of Wolverine. Although Claremont didn't create Wolverine or Thunderbird, he could have taken the characters in very different directions.

From a storytelling standpoint, the best outcome of Thunderbird dying was the introduction of his younger brother years later.

Thunderbird, there was so much untapped potential. On a of my favorites. He was a Native American character whose powers and attire didn't seem like a stereotype to me. As a Marine  with Native American ancestry, he gets bonus points from me.
