A new JLA cartoon coming?

via screen rant:

In the early 2000s, legendary creators Bruce Timm and Paul Dini’s popular animated series Batman Beyond was put on hold to make room for their newest project: Justice League. The series featured the main roster of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Flash, Hawkgirl and Martian Manhunter and, due to the series’ popularity, these heroes became the default team for many young fans.

After two seasons, the show was changed to Justice League Unlimited. The new series included the core team, but also introduced a wide range of additional heroes to their ranks. From Elongated Man to B’Wana Beast, no hero was too strange or obscure for the series. Unfortunately, the series came to an end in 2006 and though there have been some great DC animated series since (Young Justice in particular), there has yet to be a series that can match Justice League‘s success.

That doesn’t mean WB is done trying. A new image shared by Reddit user UknownJ25 (below) seems to indicate that a new Justice League animated series is on the way. The picture appears to have been taken in Warner Bros’ Burbank offices and shows a slew of posters for existing and upcoming animated series. Joining previously announced animated series like Wabbit and Bunnicula is one simply titled JLA.

The poster features a number of iconic silhouettes, including Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. The heroes that will be appearing alongside the trinity are hard to make out, but it appears Shazam, Zatanna, Firestorm and possibly Hawkgirl and the hero version of Doctor Light would be joining this incarnation of the league.

Outside of the poster, there’s currently no information available about the potential series. It might have ties to the Timm/Dini DC Animated Universe, but the character designs along with the title seem to negate that possibility. If JLA does indeed stand for Justice League of America, it will be the first property to use the moniker in DC’s television offerings, seeming to indicate a new take on the team.

It’s worth noting that the presence of a single poster in the WB office is not a confirmation that Cartoon Network will be airing a new Justice League series. However, considering the accompanying posters, the odds are good that an animated project is at least in the beginning stages of production. As Warner Bros. gears up to bring Justice League to the big screen in 2017, the timing is right to bring the brand back to television. It would also allow the adaptation of some beloved characters that might not work in the company’s live-action offerings.

Warner Bros. may have created some of the most beloved animated superhero shows of the past two decades, but the company hasn’t always treated its properties fairly in the eyes of the fans. The unceremonious cancellation of both Young Justice and Green Lantern caused a bit of an uproar. Beware the Batman, the next DC animated series, fared even worse. The series was pulled from the Saturday morning DC Nation block after only eleven episodes. The remaining fifteen episodes of the prematurely cancelled series were eventually scheduled to air – at 3:00 a.m.

Still, there’s reason to hope that if a JLA series is in production, WB will put their best talent on the project. The company has shown a renewed interest in animation, specifically web-based series such as Vixen and Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles. WB is investing heavily in these shows and the web series match the production value of any of their previous animated series. If they’re going to bring one of their biggest properties back to the small screen, it’s a safe bet that they’re going to do it right.

We’ll bring you more information on the as-yet unannounced JLA series as it becomes available.

Interesting speculation. I find DC's animated offerings much more interesting than their actual comic books. To be honest, the Giffen/DeMatteis run was one of the best things to come out of DC. I'd still love to see that used as source material for some animated offerings both in tone and stories (the "Breakdowns" crossover was a disappointment in many ways).
