The Seven Deadly ...

I'm teaching a class on the Seven Deadly Sins next week, and got to thinking about how these traits might apply to existing super-teams either in V&V or in comics.

Here's a stab on how the Destroyers might look as the Seven Deadly sins, based largely on their personalities and character bios and some shoe-horning.

Lust = Ratman
Gluttony = Behemoth
Greed = Shapeshifter
Sloth = Iron Maiden
Wrath = Electrocutioner
Envy = Annihilator
Pride = Dr. Apocalypse

That's kind of cool, even if a few of them aren't perfect matches.

Here are the Seven Deadly Crusaders.

Lust = Evergreen
Gluttony = Laserfire
Greed = Enforcer
Sloth = TEACHER
Wrath = Manta-Man
Envy = Blizzard
Pride = Dreamweaver

Most of these are self-explanatory based on the professions and bios of each character in Crisis at Crusader Citadel and some creative license. The only exception is Laserfire, seen in the V&V comic book with a tub of popcorn in his lap while his date is left empty-handed (#1, p. 19).

IMHO, I'd switch Annihilator and Electrocutioner around. When I think Wrath, I think violence and Electrocutioner just doesn't have that. But I like the concept. Wouldn't the Crusaders have the seven saintly virtues, not the sins?

Associating the Seven Deadly Sins to various characters (good and evil) is basically a parlor game. If you'd like to try associating each of the virtues with each of the Crusaders, you certainly can give it a shot.

I went back on forth on those two. I settled for Electrocutioner for Wrath because of his life-after-death origin and Annihilator for Envy because of his unfulfilled aspirations. But I could see this going either way.

Hmmm. I see your point, PB. And I like your reasoning.

Thanks for doing this.

Here's a shoe-horned attempt to associate the founding members of the New Teen Titans with the Seven Deadly Sins.

Wonder Girl = Lust (engaged/married)
Kid-Flash = Gluttony (later, as Flash)
Changeling = Greed
Raven = Sloth (pacifist)
Starfire = Wrath (battle rage)
Cyborg = Envy
Robin/Nightwing = Pride

Good list ... Vaguely related. Always thought Velma was hot.

I recently saw Scooby Doo meets Batman and Robin from 1972. Don't worry, though. I won't be posting anything about Wonder Woman's guest appearance on the Brady Kids cartoon.

I had a villain group called the Seven Deadly Sinners once.  They didn't try to embody the themes of each sin, though; it was more like a Legion of Doom.

Yeah that doesn't work at all.  Changeling had no interest in acquisition.  Wonder Girl seemed pretty chaste. Pacifism doesn't equal laziness. Kid Flash was never a glutton during the NTT years and even later it would be hard to argue gluttony when he actually NEEDS to eat that much. Maybe Cyborg is envious of those who retain their humanity. Maybe. Dick Grayson's pride hardly seems to be he type that goeth before a fall.
