Warner Bros. signs off on R-rated ‘Batman: The Killing Joke’ movie
BY CHRIS BEGLEY ON OCTOBER 9TH, 2015

At San Diego Comic-Con it was announced that Batman: The Killing Joke would be one of the next animated movies from DC Comics and Warner Bros.. Tonight at the Batman: Bad Blood panel at New York Comic-Con we got word from producer James Tucker that Warner Bros. gave them permission to make it rated R!

It seems like Tucker isn’t 100% sure if the movie will move forward with an R-rating, but honestly, it’d be really hard not to! One of the most pivotal scenes shows The Joker shooting Batgirl in the back, paralyzing her. He then strips her naked and photographs her, and uses those photos later on to torture Commissioner Gordon.

Correction: This article previously said that James Tucker was directing. He is not.

This one's been out of discussion for almost exactly six months, but this was, I think, the appropriate place to bring it back for announcement: Killing Joke is going to be out this summer!

What makes this even more highly anticipated, from my point of view, is that they have (as I remembered was being lobbied for in at least one article) got Kevin Conroy! and Mark Hamill! (as well as the rest of the regular B:TAS cast) back into the old familiar places.  Looking forward to this large; hope the rest of the gang has some enjoyment with it as well.

Damn themz - Warner Bros. has their blue-nosed Internet agents snooping around and scooping up anything that threatens to dig its way off the reservation, even if such is doing an excellent job of advertising for them.  Sigh.  In any case, I still hold the argument that this is an excellent upcoming piece of work, and am looking forward big-time to Messers Conroy and Hamill (et al) wielding the swords in ways that no one else can match up to.

Another update: confirmed that July 25, Killing Joke will be released - in addition to which, it's going to actually be out in some theatres (in the U.S., at least) the day before it gets put out for retail sale!  I have to say, based on the preview and behind-the-scenes stuff in the YouTube piece attached, that I think Bruce Timm, Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill have put a capstone on these characters that is going to be pretty damn hard to outdo.  Looking forward to it big.
