Replace to hit table with damage reduction matrix

Have any of you houseruled getting rid of the to hit table and replacing it with a damage reduction matrix?  In other words you would roll to hit with the same probability of hand to hand, but defense type would provide damage reduction based on the incoming attack.  To me this was always the biggest flaw with the game and I think this solution would address it.

I'm not sure this would work very well, as HTH is generally difficult for most characters to hit with.  It's arguably one of the worst attacks, and many people house-rule to make the base chance higher.

Your method sounds more like the reduction to attacks would work on the back end.  In other words, a character would still be hit by an attack, but the defense would reduce damage, sort of the way Invulnerability does.

I think the chart works really well, though it is a bit unwieldy and more work than one generally sees in RPGs nowadays.

I house ruled HTH having a base of 7 to hit, and that seemed to help it out a bit. Other than that, grabbing an improvised weapon of sometime usually helps a bit as well.

It's like there is a +3 for the HTH base except for the powers astral projection, non corporealness and all the powers for which the base is still 0.

and for mind control/emotion control. The bonus/malus for Charisma and/or Intelligence is not +/2 but +1 for every 5 points of difference in those score between the attacker and the defender. I can't remember if i read this here or if it came from my brain. I think i read it here  Wink

furthermore i add darkness control in the table (like in the first version ?) but didn't had the opportunity to use it yet

So is anyone planning on testing this out in a game?
