World Watch Issue Summaries

Crazy though it might be, we have added two new 'titles' to the Guardians campaign.  My son has rejuvenated his old campaign, and is now running two different groups (each with five players), that is all part of the same overall universe/campaign.

There are now seven titles (with all but one of those at least somewhat active)!

Here's issue #1 of one team.  For now we're calling them World Watch, though I don't believe that name is completely locked in.

My son was the GM and he wrote most of this; I just edited it.

#1 – Secrets Revealed – The GamesMaster alerts many superhero teams around the world that the Cosmic Train has been hijacked, and that its new route is only back and forth between Alpha and Delta.  She contacts the android Witness and explains her plan to create a team of heroes to deal with upcoming problems, but first they must participate in a game.  Witness, Xcellerant, Mighty Crusher, Raphael, and Nightstalker (from Delta) receive a text, then the GamesMaster teleports them aboard the starship Courageous.  After being secretly told whether they are ‘protectors’ or ‘villains’, they then contest each other, either saving or killing civilians in the massive spacecraft’s simulation room.  Witness takes notes during the exercise, and afterwards both she and their host express to each other how impressed they are.  The GamesMaster then shows them holographic videos of recent events.  The first shows biochemist Lance Dragon, his bodyguard Lacerta Rex, and Mr. Fahrenheit (all from Delta), along with a young girl, meeting with Doctor Apocalypse, backed up by agents Behemoth and Ratman.  Behemoth’s eyes flash red and he attempts to apprehend the girl, but Dragon teleports her away.  The two sides appear ready to clash further when the scene ends.  The second hologram reveals a press conference with Lance Dragon on Alcatraz, flanked by Lacerta Rex and Doctor Apocalypse.  He claims that Motivator has formed an alliance with Lord Malek from Delta, and that the two dimensions are tethered and will fall together.  He claims that he and Apocalypse will deal with this epic threat, and invites any ‘capes’ to join them.  The third video shows a despondent Master Mannix (Delta) alone in a dark cell.  He speaks of an ‘incident’, kept secret by seven people for 84 years, that should be exposed.  He speaks of end times, a witch’s premonitions, and how the ‘incident’ is key to saving both worlds before hanging himself.  After the five vigilantes consider the assorted clues, the GamesMaster teleports them to San Francisco, where a lone paranormal flees into a bank after being attacked by Inferno (Delta) and six of Motivator’s Elastimen constructs.  The raging Inferno begins burning the bank to the ground, so some of the champions aid citizens as others fight outside, Witness rescuing the chased super.  Nightstalker convinces Inferno that Motivator might be controlling him, and eventually he reluctantly departs.  Four of the Elastimen merge and ooze into the earth.  The adventurers find a strange device on one of the Elastimen, and later determine it to be high-tech memory viewing device.  The rescued man turns out to be CoMet, one of the original Vindicators (Delta) and witness to the ‘incident’.  Delving into his memories, the group witnesses the Vindicators entering Alcatraz Island in 1933.

#2 – An Unexpected Ally – Nightstalker researches Malek and learns his past motivation and potential weaknesses; he appears to have been born in the late 1800s and might have been a vampire since the 1930s.  The GamesMaster gathers Witness, Nightstalker, and Mighty Crusher on the Courageous and informs them that Xcellerant is out.  She introduces them to Eclipse, a hero from Delta with different powers depending on the sun or moon’s presence, who served as a bodyguard to Lance Dragon for nearly two decades.  She tells them that Doctor Apocalypse exchanged Spatial Shock with Dragon for a little girl, to whom he gave a gem.  The GamesMaster speculates that the girl might be the daughter of the former Guardian Mischief.  She also shares that Dragon is building a sanctuary for capes against a future doomsday, and expresses concern about Delta Vindicator Dr. Richtofen, who has incredible power but a dangerous attitude.  The group discusses Mannix’s funeral and the members of the ‘incident’.  Suddenly the GamesMaster tells them that one of Doctor Apocalypse’s warehouses is under attack, so she teleports them to San Francisco near Lake Merced Park.  In a field they find a large deactivated robot (the horseman Famine), a dead paranormal, the girl with a gem in her forehead, and the supervillain Headhunter (from Delta), whose leg is phased inside a rock.  Headhunter is terrified of the girl, and as Eclipse bonds with her, she teleports Headhunter miles up into the air.  Eclipse saves him, and the heroes learn the dead man is Reaper (Delta), one of the original Vindicators.  Memory tech nearby disheartens World Watch, as they were too late to save him!  Doctor Apocalypse arrives and shows concern for the girl.  He repairs the robot and flies away with the child, unconcerned with the nearby warriors.  Eclipse transforms and calls a contact.  The adventurers travel south to the vampire’s club Nighthaven, where several Elastimen are skewered outside as a warning.  They meet Eclipse’s friend, elf-like servant Logson, and in a back room they are introduced to a disinterested Lord Malek, who dismisses their questions and concerns.  Suddenly Motivator’s forces of Blackout, Nightmare, Ape/Prime, and several Elastimen attack, destroying the building and killing civilians.  The vigilantes make short work of them, leaving Malek grateful.  Though reluctant, he allows them to view his memories and learn more clues about the ‘incident’, where a witch granted them immortality.  The heroes deduce that the alliance between Malek and Motivator was a deception fabricated by Lance Dragon and suspect that Motivator has been masquerading as Doctor Apocalypse on Delta.  Epilogue: Rafael returns and throws the head of Inferno at Nightstalker’s feet, blaming him for the slain victims after he was allowed to go free on their last mission.

This one was a huge mega-game, where my son ran for two groups (with five players in each!).  So ten players total (11 around the table!)

#3 – The Wrath of Apocalypse – With the Vindicators aboard the Cosmic Train on their way to Alpha, the apparitions aboard suddenly freeze, and Doctor Apocalypse causes the train to crash!  The teammates exit the wreckage in San Francisco and find themselves facing off with three Horsemen Robots, Destroyers Behemoth, Ratman, and Annihilator, Doctor Apocalypse, and his protégé, Sapphira.  The mad genius expresses frustration at their meddling, insisting that he will kill them for causing the abduction of his agents.  World Watch arrives, but realizes they are outmatched and only observes.  A Phantom (from Delta) appears and pulls Apocalypse away.  The others see fear in the Doctor’s face and make out the words “chosen one”.  The Phantom vanishes, and the villain changes his plans: he demands that the group come to his island within 12 hours or he will unleash nuclear devastation upon major American cities!  Sapphira spots Eclipse and asks her ‘Uncle A’ if they can come as well; Doctor Apocalypse then demands that World Watch also join the Vindicators and threatens Raphael before he and his forces fly away.  Rattled and uneasy, the two teams share information.  Nightstalker and Mighty Crusher leave and meet up with CoMet, who pleads with them to ally with Motivator.  He gives them communication devices and vaguely threatens that a captured Mantis-Man’s fate and treatment depends on their answer.  The pair returns, but convinces the others not to trust Motivator, and they smash the communicators.  Witness contracts mercenaries, and the adventurers travel via boats to the Nacht Island group north of Bermuda and make their way into a cave on the main island.  They black out upon entering a facility and wake to find themselves in individual tanks.  Believing that they are in virtual reality scenarios, the heroes are tested alone, as the Doctor explores what extremes they will go to.  After making extremely difficult choices, the vigilantes sense that their actions have actually happened somewhere!  Apocalypse then gives them a challenging riddle, with incorrect answers producing deadly explosions.  Spatial Shock, Titan’s Fist, Eclipse, and Escanor are all slain by the blasts due to incorrect guesses.  Weary and hurt, those remaining, including Aftermath and Dr. Richtofen, beg the titan to undo the death of their allies.  Doctor Apocalypse insists that he will only do so if they swear to slay his mortal enemy, Motivator.  They all agree, and after he resurrects those killed (Sapphira raises Eclipse) he allows World Watch to depart.

#4 – Motivated to Murder – As the team exits the cave, Nightstalker overhears Doctor Apocalypse mention the large Delta vessel Garden of Eve to the Vindicators.  Horseman War encourages them to get into a waiting minivan, and the gigantic robot then lifts them with tendrils into the sky.  As he flies them west, the Delta hero Shockfire flies past them, headed towards Nacht Island.  They arrive in San Francisco and are given the modified van.  Back at their base, they reach out to contacts and authorities in an effort to track down CoMet.  The next day C.H.E.S.S. locates the former Delta hero just a few miles away.  They race there, where outside of a bar the manager tells them of a recent confrontation between two sides, one wearing hoodies and the other apparently “lizardmen”.  They chase the two fleeing suspect vehicles across town, Raphael, Eclipse, and Mighty Crusher in their van, Witness carrying Nightstalker on her flying cycle, the Argos.  The heroes take out one group of thugs in an SUV, but the other escapes into a bunker.  As they arrive, a wounded Lord Malek is knocked out the front door.  Inside they find CoMet and a severely injured Mantis-Man, wearing a respirator and barely able to breathe.  Surrounding them are screens showing apparent images and messages from Motivator.  Witness rushes Mantis-Man to a hospital, and Nightstalker calms combatants CoMet and Malek.  CoMet is encouraged to break with Motivator, but he expresses concern for the life of his niece, who Motivator holds as a hostage.  The group steps outside to speak privately.  Malek, hell-bent on revenge, shares that Motivator has kidnapped his servant, Logson, and demands that he be allowed to kill her himself.  CoMet reluctantly shares where the villainess can be found, so Malek joins the team as they journey south of the city to a DragonCorp biotech building.  Inside they find Behemoth, Iron Maiden, Annihilator and Electrocutioner waiting, who reveal that they now work for Motivator!  Malek transforms, revealing that he was Shapeshifter all along, and the massive front door slams shut, trapping them all inside!  The two sides battle, Ratman joining the fray while around them all thugs dispose of cloning equipment through portals.  Most of the heroes fall, and the Delta Destroyers turn to killing the goons and tossing them through the gateways.  Reviving each other, the adventurers begin to rally, and when they down Annihilator, Shapeshifter grabs Behemoth and joins her teammates by fleeing through a portal.  C.H.E.S.S allows them to briefly keep the captured Annihilator, and the powerful alien refuses to answer questions until Raphael dangles him through a doorway into Hell.  Epilogue: Motivator kills CoMet’s elderly niece by slitting her throat.
