This book by Robert Heinlein is probably the story that From the Deeps of Space is based on.  But it also illustrates a good introduction to how space and space suits work.

While visiting NASA a few years ago, I learned that space suits of today consist of twelve (!?) layers.  Alligators (crocodiles?) used to climb the fences and get into places where they weren't needed so NASA began using custom-designed fences to keep them out.  And you can have your picture taken in front of a picture of a blast off.  Oh, and NASA Barbi dolls are in the gift shop.

Part of one of the moon-landing space suits is on display.  It has real moon dust on the boots.  And a three-or-four-story rocket is on display.  Much, too much information for a single visit.

Plenty of research there for role-playing "real" locations and planting plot seeds in your campaign.  Oh, and learning how space and space suits work!
