So, who's seen it? Do to a funky work schedule, and some other commitments, I STILL have not been able to see this flick. But I'm giving it one more shot tonight. Hopefully I'll be able to slide over to a theater without any issues (like work, or the GF's car crapping out, and me having to drive 60 miles to pick up and have it towed to the shop Angry ).

It was great.   I was very skeptical as I didn't like the idea of a reboot, they man they won me over.  And I am  the biggest Shatner as Kirk fan going.    I loved the orginal series, and I have to say, this film did a very good job of being true while adding some depth.

Well, I finally got a chance to see it, and thought it was OK. While I thought the villain was a little weak, and he could have used more back story, I thought it did a decent job of rebooting the series, and setting up the next sequel. I one major change I'm not quite sure clicked, was the romance (and if you've seen it, you'll know who I'm talking about).

I agree with that.  The romance seemed a bit forced.  But how cool was Sulu's sword?

Sulu, like Hiro in Heroe's, had a sword.   DId you see the movie? I don't want to spoil anything.

John's summary above is spot on.

It was a fun remake, and they did a fantastic job of casting people who brought the characters to life without doing impressions of the originals.

Sulu's sword was awesome, and I agree that I didn't care for the romance between those two.

Its hard to imagine doing it better, except to give the villain some extra depth - and yeah, finding away to undo the Big Thing that was done - by doing that, Spock would have lost philosophically to Kirk and we would have cheered to see that Kirk was right that there is NOT a 'no-win' scenario.

I think that would have shot the movie into the A++ range, imnsho.

Cheesy

Regarding the villain(s) having more depth, I understand that the comic that tells the entire backstory does an outstanding job of explaining everything (though I haven't read it).

Is it a one shot or a mini?
