Meanie!!  LOL  Once my conditional status is removed from my permanent residency here State-side, we'll be heading to the wondrous North and the first thing I am going to do (aside from bursting into tears of course) is getting a big plate of poutine!

Toronto? That's not poutine! Although it's a somewhat edible emulation. Wink

If you're in town, let me know. I might join you or simply go for coffee. I went to the comic con with the whole family this year. It was ok, but a little difficult, the boys are young and the place is busy. I would have done the (massive) line for a Bruce Campbell autograph, but not with the boys (recipe for disaster).

LOL!!  Blizzard???  Okay maybe for these New Yorkers you could almost call it that, but it's more like a dump of snow that is slowly slowly melting and is causing a little distress... mostly when trying to get the car out...

BUT!

This was by NO means a Blizzard.  I am from Winnipeg Manitoba Canada originally (now living in NYC with me man here John) and the snow NYC has now is usually what we'd get by the middle of November.  A Blizzard to me is when there's so much snow you can't get out the front doors and when you finally do dig yourself out, the snow is almost to the waist.

This was just a good snowfall.

/end rant

LOL

Sylver, don't I know it. I come from Montreal where we get dumped on pretty good. I get the same reaction for Torontonians (where the lake effect really helps them). They have it GOOD. Snows never last more than a week or two. It always melts away and it generally just isn't as much as I'm used to.

When you can handle a year's worth of snow without _having_ to buy a snowblower.. it's not that much.

plus... SNOWBALL FIGHTS! I'm the one-man army against my boys. It's loads of fun.

Yeah my brother lives in TO and he's pouting because they have no snow.  What I remember most about Montreal and Ottawa are the ice storms you guys always get in like Feb, March.  Shutting down the cities for days.  those are freaky.  Winnipeg never really had ice storms in all the years I lived there, but boy do they put on a good blizzard!

And yes, snowball fights are the best.  Unless a small piece of ice gets into it by accident and hits you near the temple.  That's not fun.  Happened to me when I was in grade two.  Had quite the bump going on.

We only had one Ice Stormtm. We get "verglas"[french] which is ice covering, but never to the extent that we had that year in Jan 1999. Usually because instead of snowing, it rains and freezes the next day. Usually it goes away fast. within a day or two.

People know how to drive in those conditions and the city knows how to handle this stuff. Walking can be very treacherous though.

But that one Ice Storm?! That was one hell of a life experience.

I think I remember that ice storm.  Wasn't the city shut down for a week almost??

I'm glad I am not in Winnipeg for one reason - no spring flooding like the Flood of 1997.  I remember that blizzard which helped cause the flood.  You couldn't where the street began from the sidewalks and cars were completely buried.  I walked to Safeway the next day just to see if it were open.  LOL

It brightens up my day seeing that picture of young Kitty Pryde. Kind of reminds me of myself at 13. Well, okay, not really. But it brings back fond memories. She was a good example of a dork of a character that turned into a very interesting and competent character in spite of well-deserved skepticism among fans at the start. Here's to you, Kate Pryde!

When did Five Guys make it to NYC?!?

I knew they were in the DC area and have just shown up in Chicago.
Love that joint!

They seem to now be in Seattle, too.  Just saw them for the first time.  Will have to check them out sometime, based on the recommendations here.

Make sure you pick up a large bag of Spicy Fries. They basically scoop up a heaping amount of fries and throw them in a paper bag for you. It's so terrible it's great if that makes any sense........

Don't like the spicy fries.   To much of that Cajun spice.  Not my thing.   Although I do love super hot,  the flavor is not to my liking.
