Hey Superfriend,

Don't know if you're still visiting, or if you collect toys, but Target's got a 3-pack of action figures of Samurai, Apache Chief and Black Vulcan in the Bruce Timm / Justice League art style on shelf now.

Look:

For that matter...

Anyone collect superhero toys? If so, which were your favorite lines?

I loved the Bruce Timm take on DC.
I'm still collecting Mighty Muggs but I hear they are ending the run.

Also, the recent New Gods figures were amazingly on model. They look like Jack Kirby sculpted them.

Actually he's added yet another bookcase to that collection to the left of this picture.  After that is my "office" area that has two and a half bookcases which house various comic book toys, books, 4 shelves dedicated to all things Harry Potter and one top shelf is home to Reepicheep (name what book that name comes from) my dwarf Hamster.

Hammer, I didn't see it.

John, what are your recent favorites?

Not to belabor the SuperFriends aspect, but I really liked the SuperFriends / Legion of Doom action figure two packs they did where you got Supes and Lex, Robin and the Riddler, Aquaman and Black Manta (!), etc.
The sculpts followed the Alex Toth SF designs.

Saw it. It was cool, in a geeky sort of way. That show is much better since the introduction of JLA as far as geek winks are concerned. That's circa season 6

Here's an action figure horror story for you guys out there. When my mom's aunt heard that my younger brother was getting a Wonder Woman action figure for his birthday, she wanted to surprise him. So without telling my mom, Aunt B. went ahead and knitted a whole wardrobe of clothes custom-made to fit the action figure. Sweaters. Skirts. You name it. And lots of them. She didn't quite get that Wonder Woman was not a doll.

My brother was speechless when he opened the box full of toy clothes and discreetly put it aside. He handled it really well for a kid who was turning 7. No one wanted to offend a distant aunt who had gone to so much trouble making handmade clothes.

But Wonder Woman isn't Barbie. And my brother wasn't into dressup. I think my mom gave the clothes to a neighbor girl who lived down the block. We never told Aunt B. the truth. Poor dear.

It's the only Smallville I've missed in some time (forgot to DVR it).  I plan on watching it on Hulu or somewhere online, though.

Yes, the JLA stuff has been pretty cool.  Evidently they are soon having a two hour movie (not two one-hour episodes back to back, but a full-on two hour flick) on TV that focuses on the entire JLA.  Should be a lot of fun!

Yow.
This is probably why I have few female action figures. It's tough enough justifying owning male dollies.  Wink

I love the Kirby New Gods  and I have to say I am in the minority cause I love the Hasbro Marvel Legends.  They toned down on the articulation.  36 points just made the toys flimsy.  Check out the Hasbro Namor to see what I am talking about.  Its solid, has more than enough articulation and it stands nice.
I love the Hand Solider.  I hope Hasbro doesn't stop making these toys.

I should probably add that my brother had a whole line of Marvel and DC action figures, along with the Planet of the Apes. Those were great!

I collected the Star Trek action figures back in the 1970s. Uhura's hair was unmangeable. My dad was extra kind one Christmas and bought me three figures I needed to round out my collection. We used to pretend that the aliens had different super powers.

I only had a few superhero figures myself. Aquaman and Green Arrow. I think that was it. There was no need to overlap with what the rest of the family already owned.

A cousin of ours had Batgirl--one of the few heroes neither of us owned. She's one of the few heroes whose costume actually looks great in real-life (i.e. on an action figure).

Agreed! I remember getting figures with articulated ankles and toes that just couldn't stand up on the shelf.

Dyna Girl,
Were those (superheroes, Star Trek, Apes) figures the ones from Mego with real fabric clothes?

I used to love the Mego Toys as a kid.

I had most of the male Star Trek ones. Pretty much all the Planet of the Apes ones, and a bunch of the super heroes.
I always wanted Thor, and the only time I saw him was when I was staying with my grandparents.  I asked my grandfather to buy it for me, and all he saw was long blond hair and told me that boys don't play with dolls...

Sad day.
