The aforementioned bad guy is the king in the quote, but it seems like he's hardly referred to as such.

OK, really read that quote. Other than the funny way of speaking, what does he actually say that is a major clue?

It's the mighty Silver Surfer in his first battle with Mephisto!

This story was also in the "Bring on the Bad Guys!" compilation which I read so many times as a kid, I had it preactically memorized for a while!

Guessing Dr. Strange? It sounds like something he might say to a demonic foe....

I'll let Stormdance finish his first.

I know I won't get his though because I wasn't reading comics around the time he mentioned.

Ok some more clues.

The author of the comic series the quote is from died within the last few years.

before his death and during the years the comic gained popularity he had an ongoing verbal war with Wendy and Richard Pini. It was all in jest but some people thought they were seriously bashing each other.

hmmmm...????

No clue,  looks like you stumped us.    Care to reveal the answer?

In the meantime, here is a good quote I know my game team loves.

"The plastic things at the end of shoelaces are called aglets.  Their true purpose is sinister..."

Here is a hard one. This is from an independent comic. Not Marvel or DC.

"I'd best go."
"Why?"
"My gun is startin' to talk to me...
bad things happen when that starts."

Ok guys here's the answer to this one:
Lusiphur Malache

Its from Writer/Artist Drew Hayes who passed away not long ago. The comic: "I, Lusiphur" which later became "Poison Elves". It's from Issue 4 I believe, from the story titled "Similitude of a Hero". It's the anti-hero Lusiphur the elf himself, who speaks the quote.

I did say it was difficult so if yer scratching yer head going "What?!" , I swear I didn't make it up. It was a real comic and a real character and in my opinion, it was really good.

Cheesy

John's quote isn't precisely from a comic, but as it's from one of the best damn animated superhero series ever produced, I'll call it fair play.  Quote is from the Question, in the midst of being tortured by some Cadmus medico/sociopath-type, while he stalwartly refuses to answer interrogations as to exactly what information he and Huntress managed to escape with during a raid at the beginning of the episode.  The episode itself is, I believe, "Question Authority".

And now my quote: "I'm the best there is at what I do, but what I do isn't very nice."  Wait - sorry, that's what I say just before first period at school starts.  As I'm still at work and have to actually get back to looking after those students, I'll post on again later.  Smiley

I don't read comics, but isn't that Wolvernine's like famous phrase or something?

I loved poison elves myself. I was saddened by drew's passing.
