Ok I am all caught up with the DVD releases. Elle and I have finished Season 5, with Matt Smith. Ok, I like him. He is more of the nerdy type than the cool guy type that Eccelston was . He is endearing, and he has great potential. I loved the Van Gogh episode, the stand out episode of the season.
And Amy Pond, oh man, hubba hubba. I would post more, but I don't want this to turn into a Penthouse Forum letter.
My only complaint is that the stories tend to be a bit sloppy. The Russel years had a bit of sloppiness to them, and I chalked that up to British Story Telling, but season five just had to many. They totally forgot that Weeping Angels are called that because they are the lonliest beings in the universe. They turn to stone even if they see each other, so they hunt alone. In the Angel two parter, there were hundreds of them running around, and yet they all managed to not see each other? Oh well....
And I watched the 8th Doctor, Paul McGann's Tv Movie.
I love it! I was told how bad it was, but you know what? It was a perfect bridge from the cheapo special effects from the Seventh Doctor's years to the computer graphics and nice sets of the Ninth Doctor. And McGann was great. He was a nice blend of humor, childness, and daring that I want from the Doctor. Its a shame that people crap on this movie, it was great. Even Eric Robert's campy acting was great. Man when he pranced out in the Timelord robe I nearly cracked up.
And the Tardis, man, it was without a doubt the best Tardis of all. Even with the wind blown leaves inside for no reason at all it had the best look. Its a shame it wasn't picked up for a new series.
Here is to hoping that they make a new special with the 8th doctor telling the story of the Time War and show him regenerating into the ninth doctor. How cool would that be? I hope McGann and Eccelston don't have any ill will towards the current Producers.
