Thanks for posting these. It's interesting seeing different people's takes on the characters, and it's clear you put a lot of thought into your write-ups.

May I ask one question about experience points? Did Thunderbird have a lot of experience before joining the X-Men. Or do the new X-Men earn enough experience points in Giant Size #1, and X-Men #94-95 to bring him to 12th level?

I should have been more clearer, this is a 'What If' take on the X-Men. What if their history diverged at X-Men 95 or so. Wink Things like Thunderbird's death didn't happen. Polaris and Havok are active (but more recently hence the lower Level than their team mates). I tried to stay true to the characters in the comics but with this 'alternate reality' in mind. I want to present all the pieces and leave it up to the GM to figure out how they fit together. I hope that makes some sort of sense. Wink

Two more characters... I'm still working on more.

Cheers,
Tim

Thanks! You have a very clean approach to translating characters that captures their spirit and powers well. I especially like how you made sense of Colossus' transformation and Wolverine's skeleton. Bravo!

Those are great. You plan on knocking out any more? Say the Hellfire Club, or the New Brotherhood of Evil Mutants?

I've been having a blast knocking these PDFs off. I would like to do some X-Men villains as well so who knows what's next. I've also been grabbing the various character images from cover scans or pics from the actual comic and then I tweak them in Photoshop to give me the pic(s) I use in the PDF. Wink

I have a Phoenix write-up that's giving me some trouble and I want to tackle the original X-Men as well. The original team went their own ways when the All-New All-Different X-Men took over. Over time, each member has found his or her's way back on the team at one point or another. Naturally a Magneto write-up would have to be done as well.

I'm thinking of putting a page together for these PDFs under the name of 'Children off the Atom V&V Campaign' or hopefully something snazzier. Wink

I've been meaning to start a similar V&V project but with a Fantastic Four theme... one of these days I will.

Cheers,
Tim

A V&V campaign centered around either the X-Men or the FF would be  neat ideas. The only potential problem I could see would be players wanting to play cannon characters. Then the few who play their own would have to be given some compensation to balance it out. Or your new players could be the newest members of the New Mutants

Either way Love the sheets the art looks like it is from the  great era of Clairmont

I've been grabbing pics from the 90s to late 100s of the X-Men books. Actually most of the cover pics are from the Official Marvel Index of the X-Men vol 1 (1987). The cover scans are printed on good quality paper in that series so they scan better than newsprint pics.

I've been having trouble with the Phoenix write-up because she is so damn powerful then I realized that if I'm doing a what if situation based on Giant-Sized X-Men 1, then perhaps Jean Grey never became Phoenix. I decided to shelf my Phoenix write-up (for the time being) and focus on the original X-Men next.

I see Phoenix as more of an NPC who's used as a Plot device, by the GM, not an actual PC, as she's far to powerful. The GM would make her as powerful as he fells like, and uses her to move the storyline along. You need her to blow up a planet, then she's powerful enough to do it.

Also, I like the layout of your sheets, do you mind if I steal...err, barrow a slightly modified version of your layout?

Go right ahead dsumner. I agree about Phoenix feeling like a NPC. That's why I'm going to do a Marvel Girl write-up instead. I found the best picture of Jean Grey in her green mini-skirt outfit for the PDF. Wink

I think I might present both versions of the Beast. The human looking one and the blue & furry one. I like both aspects of the character so I will probably do a write-up for each. Course there's also Iceman and the Angel.

Cheers,
Tim

These are awesome; very well done, Black Bolt!    Smiley

Funny how Wolverine takes two pages (I guess Storm and Havoc did as well)!    Grin

Here's some more PDFs.

Updated the Beast PDF, 06-03-2010.

I also have plans for a blue & furry Beast and Phoenix PDFs. Then I guess it is time for some villains.

Tim

Defenders - On my wish list
Champions - On my wish list
New Warriors - Sorry, probably not. Not a series that I've read.

I don't know yet since I haven't gotten that far, but it will probably be various late 70s/early-mid 80s Avengers (maybe around the time of the Korvac Saga). If I do Alpha Flight, it will be the Byrne version. At the moment I'm looking at villains that appeared in the X-Men like Count Nefaria, the Ani-Men, the Hellfire Club, the various Sentinal types, etc.

No plans for Excalibur but you never know. I want to do a write-up for Shadowcat but first I will probably do an earlier version of her to go with the rest of the All-New, All-Different X-Men. So expect an Ariel write-up (in her green costume) before I get to the Shadowcat one.

I've noticed the odd typo, formatting issues, or miscalculations in to hit or damage modifiers in some of the write-ups. I'm updating as I come across them but I will edit my posts to let everyone know which PDF has been tweaked. Wink

This is off topic, but I really wish Polaris had stuck with her original green costume. Sure it was a little over the top, but it looked great with her green hair. I think her purple costume was very weak.

Well, it could have been worse. It could have been her X-Factor costume. I was going to use her green costume (as it appeared in X-Men 50) but I couldn't get past the silly shamrock/clover design in her head piece. The current look will have to do until I can find a decent rendered version of her green costume (if I decide to change it at all).

Cheers,
Tim

Nice work! I like how just about everyone has Heightened Endurance A. It fits the "mutant physique" discussion of the original series from the 1960s (especially with Angel's origin story and Havok's introduction). Even the Marvel RPG of the 1980s gave mutants an extra rank of Endurance.

Great art selections as well. I recognize most of the issues that most of those comic book shots are from. Neal Adams and John Byrne were the only artists who made Marvel Girl look good in her yellow/green get-up!   Smiley

Bolt, these write-ups are a wonderful work!
I hope you have villains planned as you have indicated. Might I suggest aside from Magneto and the Hellfire Club:
*Proteus
*Moses Magnum
*Garrok/Zaladane, Sauron, Savage Land denizens
*Bro Evil Mutants (both incarnations)

If it's not fun, we're not doing it right.

Pretty much everything that has been suggested is on my to-do list. I've been working on a couple of map related projects that's been keeping me pretty busy. Once things slow down on my end of things, I'll see what I can do (that reminds me... I do have a Jean Grey/Phoenix write-up almost done).

I can see myself going back & forth between different hero teams, villains and even comic universes. Since I'm doing this for fun, I'll go where the inspiration leads me so anything is possible. Wink

At the moment I've been looking at the Avengers (around the same time period as my current X-Men PDFs. The Avengers at this point* were Yellowjacket (Hank Pym), the Wasp (Janet Pym), Iron Man, Thor, Beast and Moondragon. Later Captain America, Scarlet Witch, Vision would join the team. Thor and Moondragon would depart.

* Continuity Note: August 1975 (X-Men 94 / Avengers 138)
http://marvel.wikia.com/Category:1975,_August

That's probably the Avengers team I'll be working on.

Edited to include continuity note & link.

Cheers,
Tim
