My husband has just Force Field as his power and I'm leaning towards this tweak to make it worthwhile.
However I am struggling with understanding it.
Let's say vs Ice powers.
Without FF defense, it hits on a 14.
With FF it hits on a 0.
If the Ice powers guys rolls a 15, he misses completely.
If the ice powers guy rolls a 10, does it impact the forcefield and whittle away at the invulnerability?
If he rolls a 1 does it penetrate the forcefield and bypass the invulnerability?
Or are the 10 and 1 rolls the same - impact the whittle away the invulnerability? You either miss the FF or you hit it, with no penetration?
Here's how it works,
Phrenzy (and to keep things simple I'm going to assume no modifiers from things like Level vs. Level, range, Accuracy, etc.).
If the attacker rolled 1-14, the attack hits
on the Force Field (and does half damage to the FF wielder's Power score, if you're using the RAW).
A 15-20 misses the FF (and character) entirely.
So if the attacker had a +2 from Accuracy (again assuming no other modifiers, like facing, Levels, etc.), it would be:
1-2 hits past/through the FF (it 'pierces') doing
full damage to the FF as well as
full damage to the target (which could be the character himself, or a person he's protecting).
3-16 hits on the FF (doing half damage to the Power score of the character)
17-20 misses entirely
Hope that helps! Let me know if anything isn't clear.
