50-cent and 3-for-$1 Bins

I had good luck yesterday at a magazine shop that has several 3-for-$1 short boxes of comics.

While looking for an early issue of Marvel Age magazine, I also stumbled upon Classic X-Men #36, which includes a well-done back-up feature about Moira MacTaggart and Sean Cassidy (Banshee). I had tried looking for that issue among the bagged back issues of that particular store and a few others with no luck, so it was a nice surprise to find a copy in good condition and on sale! (As an edit, I'm adding that this was the only issue of Classic X-Men with the added back-up features that I was still missing.)

The third comic I picked up was Marvel Team-Up $100, the first appearance of Karma (before the launch of the New Mutants). I'll give that copy to my brother, a big New Mutants fan. We were both surprised that that issue (a prelude to the New Mutants series) wasn't included in the collected edition of early New Mutants that he has.

In recent moths I've had luck picking up some of the Wolfman/Perez Teen Titans in the 50-cent bins at other shops. I didn't follow the Titans in the 1980s and now get to see I was missing!

I love going through those bins.  My biggest problem is that I stumble upon a store and I don't have my backissue list on me.

I have found some Epic Illustrated, the ones with Star Lord, and some Howard the Duck Magazines for a $1 each.

A few years ago, I found some decent condition copies of the orginal ThunderAgents.   I have nearly a full set now.      That store now has them behind the counter for about 50 dollars each.   SCORE!

I am scary, very, very scary.

I don't care what comics you collect, as long as you enjoy them that's what counts.

I am the proud owner of the Marvel Treasury Edition of Howard the Duck from 1976. I bought it because the Defenders guest star. I paid $6.

I just got a near mint copy of that a few weeks ago.  I think I paid 10 dollars.

And to bring the Howard goodness to further levels, I just bought and read all 7 issues of Destroyer Duck  ( cheapo comics all of them cost something like 4 dollars in the  back issue bins).
This comic is by Jack Kirby and Steve Gerber to raise money and awarness for the lawsuit Gerber filed against Marvel.  He wanted to get the ownership of the character back.   It was a fun comic that had the first apearence of Groo the Wanderer ( I got it for that reason alone, the Kirby suprise was jsut that, a welcome suprise!)

I think the lawsuit was wrong, as employees, unless specific arraignements are made prior to the start of work, the employer owns the product the employee produces.   I am an  electrician and if I said I ownd the offices I wired up then people would toss me in a looney bin.
Oh well, enough Howard the Duck related ramblings.
