The Destroyers

The Destroyers will always be one of my all time favorite villain groups. I loved them in their first appearance, and couldn't get enough of them in The Elementals comic series. I'm wondering if anyone's taken a shot at stating out Chrysalis, and if so, what did you manage to come up with. Off the top of my head, I'd give her the following:

Chrysalis

Identity:
Side: Evil                Sex: Female
Age: Early 30's        Level: 3
Training: Accuracy

Powers:
1. Insect Powers (Device):
a) Chysalis Armor: ADR 100 - Chrysalis' armor is bio-mechanical symbiote, that functions like Armor (B), but for all intents, is Armor (A).
b) Heightened Agility: +18
c) Natural Weaponry: Retractable wrist "stingers"; +3 to hit, +5 damage.
d) Wall Crawling: Chrysalis can use her stingers to physically attach herself to vertical surfaces, such as walls, or use them climb along them, moving at her normal movement rate.
e) Poison/Venom: Wrist launched poison darts. Victim is affected as though they were hit with a Paralysis Ray attack.
f) Special: Entanglement: The armor's wrist gauntlets project a sticky, glue like, substance that entraps her victims in a cocoon. Victim must save v. STR, on d100 to successfully break free.
g) Transmutation: Victims unable to free themselves from her entanglement, will eventually be physically transformed into a slug like humanoid creature, over the period of several days.
2. Regeneration:
3. Heightened Defense: -4 to be hit
4. Heightened Expertise: +4 to hit w/her armor's weapons

Origin/Background: Former military research scientist now bonded with her armor.

Chrysalis' Wrist Darts

Her Entangling Chrysalis "Goo"

I never followed the elementals. Did her poison have a range or was it via touch. Could she transmute anything into anything or were there limits. She sure sounds a lot tougher than Iron Maiden.

Ratman in the comics seemed a lot different from his Destroyers character, too, I think. I don't remember much; just that he was in love with one of the heroes.

It'd be fun seeing stats for the heroes. I always liked the kid who turned into the giant rock creature.

She fired little paralysis darts from her wrists, and a "goo" that cocooned you, and transformed you into some weird looking creature. I'll finish fleshing her out later.

In the comics, Ratman was a were-rat, and was in love with Fathom.

That was, Monolith.

I'm one of the hugest Elementals fans out there.  I think I've read through the entire series (and I collected everything about them, even the spin-offs) a half-dozen times or more.

In our (current, on-going) campaign, I've never changed Iron Maiden over to Chrysalis, though I have thought about it.  I like both characters, and since the Elementals Universe is so different from our own (and thus, our campaign) I tended to not view the events there as 'canon'.

So while I love those stories, for V&V I keep Dr. Apocalypse (no Saker), kept Iron Maiden (no Chrysalis), didn't make Ratman a were-rat, etc.  It would have been interesting if FGU would have produced the much-talked-about Elementals Sourcebook that Willingham was going to do...

From what I understand, they actually worked on the book, and even had artwork for it.

The DNAgents sourcebook was an interesting read, so an Elementals book would make sense. But of curiosity, how do you know there was an Elementals product officially in the works? Was it advertised somewhere then canned, or do you have friends in high places, etc.  Smiley

I've been lucky enough to speak with several of the V&V authors, as well as several of the people that used to play in Jeff, Jack, and Bill Willingham's V&V gaming group, and they let me know about some of the stuff that was in the pipeline when FGU quit publishing new material. At one time, I'd posted the list of all the material I knew they'd submitted to FGU, but unfortunately, the board that I posted it to went bye, bye, along with the post.  Sad

Here's a really quick set of powers for Saker.

Saker

Powers:
1. Body Power: Immortality
2. Regeneration:
3. Magic Spells:
4. Heightened Intelligence (A): +20
5. Heightened Charisma (B): +25
6. Willpower (A): PR=1 per hour when used as a defense

Notes: Other than his magical abilities, the only powers I've ever seen him display are his immortality, and a very high intelligence and charisma scores (he's got an army of loyal female mercenaries, as well as being able to gather the Destroyers to his cause). But he's always been portrayed as being extremely strong willed.

OK, I made a revision to Chrysalis' powers, and added a few images to better illustrate her abilities. I'll dig around for a few more.

Awesome; I really like Chrysalis!  Adding images does so much to improve a character!

Makes me tempted to add her to the Destroyers in our campaign.  I've always thought that she would have to *replace* Iron Maiden (as she sort of did in the comics), but I suppose she could simply be added to the team instead.

a) Armor: 100 ADR

A similar feature on one of our PCs (who was recently transformed) has brought up a number of miscommunications and misunderstandings between the player and some GMs.

The PC gained some natural Armor (so you'd think Armor A), but it's more of an outer shell (like a hermit crab), so in some ways it's more like Armor B.  When recently attacked by these swarms of nanites (that can get through just about any crack), the armor didn't protect, and it led to many discussions and further exploration of exactly how this power works for the character.

I still need to clean up her power description, and toss in some stats. The same with Saker.

Here's a group pic of the Destoryers, from the Elementals comic. You can't tell me they don't look cool as hell.

I remember the first time we went into this comic store (which became the shop I regularly go to) - this was nearly 30 years ago.  A friend of mine called over to me that he'd found a comic that seemed to have the Destroyers from V&V on the cover!!!  As we looked through it we saw that the action seemed to be happening in our home city of Seattle as well.  We were beyond ecstatic!    Smiley
