The Plot Seed Thread

I know that I, as a GM, sometimes get stuck for ideas, so I figured I’d start a thread where people could post ideas for possible plot lines, using the various characters from the V&V universe. The ideas aren’t full blown adventures, just a short paragraph, or two, outlining a possible adventure or storyline.

For example the characters could be tracking down the suppliers of a new designer drug, that’s recently appeared in their city. In doing so, they come into contact with The Buzzard (Most Wanted, Vol. 1), in his villain guise. Then encounter him in his secret ID as a narcotics officer with the city’s police department. I figure this could lead to some interesting developments.

Dangerous Waters

The PCs are called in to investigate a series of grizzly murders. The PCs may know someone on the local police/sheriff’s department; they may have had contact with one of the victims in their secret and/or hero ID; they might be a renowned criminal investigator brought in to assist in the investigation, etc. (Just use whatever best fits your particular campaign). All the victims appear to have been torn limb-from-limb by a large shark. The only problem is, sharks aren’t native to the area the murders have been occurring in. After conducting an investigation, the PCs are able to determine that the attacks are the work of the villain Jaws (Most Wanted Vol. 1), and set out to capture him. Why he’s in the area, and why he’s been killing these particular people is left up to the GM to determine.

Guerrillas in the Midst

Leo the Lion (Most Wanted Vol. 1) has come to the US, in his role as President of Malaia, to ask C.H.E.S.S. (or whatever government agency you choose to use) for assistance in putting down a “terrorist organization” (a Malaian rebel group) that’s been conducting attacks throughout Malaia. While the group is dedicated to overthrowing Leo, and establishing a new government, their attacks have killed dozens of innocent people, and caused millions of dollars in damage. Leo’s primary concern isn’t for his “loyal subjects”, but the fact that the rebels are embarrassing him in the press, and that they mite actually be successful in gaining enough local support to pose a threat to his rule. The US Government, while no fan of Leo, or his methods, is seeking his support (or in classic comic book fashion, Malaia could be the source for some rare element, metal, energy source, or whatever the GM can dream up), and asks the PCs to accompany him on his return. Who’s actually funding the rebels, and what their actual goals are, is left up the GM to determine. How the PCs will react to his presence, and Diplomatic Immunity, should be played out, especially if the PCs have had previous contact with Leo.

Another possibility is that Leo has come requesting assistance dealing with Partisan (Vigilantes International), and her group pf resistance fighters. While Leo could simply try to eradicate them, he's trying to improve his image in the world press, and by asking for assistance from the heroes, he figures he can kill two birds with one stone (put the US and the heroes in an awkward situation, and deal with Partisan at the same time). How the heroes go about handling this situation should be interesting.

Death Warrant

The PC(s) have been contacted by a law enforcement agency (the US Marshals, CHESS, or whoever fits the bill in your game), to help protect a high profile witness from possible assassination. Who the witness is, and who he’s testifying against are left to the GM to determine. While the Feds assure the PCs that every possible precaution has been taken to protect the witness, the witness insists that he’ll only cooperate if the PCs are part of his protective detail. The witness is being stashed at an out of the way motel just outside of town, and has to make it through the weekend to testify in court on Monday morning. What’s unknown by the authorities, is that Crossfire has been hired to kill the witness before he can make it to court. The GM may wish to introduce the witness at some point prior to the above scenario taking place, as they’ll be familiar with him when they meet again. Some suggested identities for the witness include, a local crime boss who’ll turn state witness, a street snitch who witnesses something he shouldn’t, an escort who’s overheard more than she should, or whoever you think would work the best for your game.

Cold as Ice

Over the past few months, local jewelers and art galleries have experienced a series of late night robberies. The highly skilled thieves always seem to make off with their ill gotten gains before police can react. Upon their arrival at any of the crime scenes, the police have been greeted by nothing more than frozen alarm systems, and puddles of water. But, thanks to a tip, from an underworld snitch, the police have discovered that the gang plans to hit a local art museum, and snatch a number of valuable paintings on loan to them from a private doner, the night after next, and plan to stop the gang in the act. The PCs learn of the plan, and make plans to be in the area, just in case (exactly how they learn what’s going on is left up to the individual GM to determine). As the police begin to spring their “trap”, it rapidly becomes apparent that they may have bitten off a bit more than they can chew. The gang’s leader, is none other than Madame Frigia, and she’s turning the SWAT team into “Copcicles” one by one.

The Hit

One of the local organized crime families (Exactly who they are is left up to the individual GM to determine, but I’d suggest that it be an organization the PC(s) have had prior dealings with), tired of the hero(es) getting in their business, has decided to do something about it, so they’ve brought in a “Professional”, to “handle the problem”. They’ve placed a 5 million dollar bounty on the hero(es) head(s), and every assassin worth their salt is now gunning for them. Local law enforcement, the Feds, or whoever, has gotten word that Simon Shrew, Crossfire, Shadow Jack, and God knows who else, is now targeting the hero(es), trying to collect the bounty on their heads, and things could get bloody.

Excessive Force

The authorities, be it the local, state, or federal officials, have been taking a lot of heat in the media, due to Ebony Angel’s crime fighting activities. She’s been accused of using excessive force when dealing with criminals. During her last encounter, she nearly killed several members of a local drug gang. So, the heroes have been contacted by the local DA (or whoever would fit the bill in your campaign), and asked if they could help in reigning her in. Exactly how she’ll react to this perceived interference is left up to the GM to determine. The hero(es) may have had prior dealings with Ebony Angel, so they may have some sort of history together.

Like a Thief in the Night

A large armored car company (who they are is left up to the GM) comes to the PC(s) pleading for help (The PC(s) may have had previous contact with the company’s owner, or he may have been steered their way by a friendly law enforcement official). In the past two weeks, three of the company’s armored cars have been robbed by the villainous Shadowjack and his crew. While they’ve managed to keep most of the details out of the media, with only a few key company employees, the authorities, and the clients affected knowing the specifics of the incidnts, many of their high profile clients are threatening to walk on them, as they’ve lost fate in the company’s ability to safeguard their assets. What’s so frustrating for the company is that it no matter what they do, Shadowjack seems to know exactly when, and where to hit the trucks with the most valuable commodities. It’s obvious to them that someone inside their organization is feeding Shadowjack and his gang info. The company is asking for the PCs to help root out the mole within their organization, and to stop Shadowjack before he manages to bankrupt them.

The PCs will need to identify the mole, find proof of their involvement, and do so without alerting Shadowjack that they’re onto his source. Who the mole is, and their motivations are left up to the GM to determine. Some suggestions include a security guard, or scheduling clerk. They could simply be in it for the money; they could have been blackmailed into cooperating; or they needed a fast way to earn some cash, for something like a child’s medical expenses. It’s recommended that the GM pay out the reason why the mole would turn to a life of crime. Once they PCs identify the mole, they’ll still need to roll up Shadowjack and his crew. How they go about doing so is left up to them.

Return of the Old Ones

The PCs are asked to help investigate a series of grisly ritualistic murders, that have taken place over the past few months. Why the characters are being brought into the investigation is left up to the GM to determine. But some suggestions include the PCs being renowned occult investigators in either their hero or secret IDs; they could simply have some knowledge of the occult; they may have known one of the victims; or the local authorities could just feel that they need the PCs help in dealing with the situation, as they’re under a lot of pressure to get the situation resolved as quickly as possible.

What everyone is unaware of, is it that the murders are being committed by Murutukku and his cult of followers. All of the murders sites appear to be elaborately staged occult scenes, with strange images, drawn in human blood, depicted on the walls, and the victims seem to have been some sort of the human sacrifice, having their heart’s removed from their bodies. By examining the murder scenes, and the manner in which the victims were killed, anyone with knowledge of the occult, or the ability to search the internet, will be able to determine a link to Murutukku, and possibly determine a pattern linking the victims. Why the cult has chosen these particular locations, how they choose their victims, or what they’re attempting to accomplish isn’t known, and is left up to the GM to determine. The GM should also try to determine some common theme linking the victims and/or murder locales. Some suggestions for crime scenes include old churches, mansions, burial grounds, crypts, etc. Victims could include local collage age girls, members of the clergy, etc.

Brain Drain

The authorities inform the PCs that they’ve recently discovered the bodies of several unconscious assault victims (who they are is left up to the GM to determine). What makes these attacks more than just run of mill assaults, is that while all of the victims survived their attacks, they have no memories of what happened to them, why they’re physically exhausted, or why, even though they can’t put it into words, they feel that “something is missing”. When tested, all of the victims have tested positive for a mind altering hypnotic drug (any PC with access to a law enforcement database will be able to identify attacks with similar M.O.s). Unknown to all, including the victims, all of the vicitims are mutants with low level psychic abilities, and that they were targeted by the villainous Psi-Phon. He’s recently acquired the psionic ability to detect psychic/mental abilities in others, and has been using his new found abilities to target young inexperienced psychics. In addition to the power descriptions listed in Most Wanted Vol. 1, he has the following abilities:

Powers:
1. Heightened Senses: Psychic Awareness: He’s instantly aware of the use of any mental abilities within INT inches. With a successful detection roll (8 x normal % -1% for every 5″ distance), he can successfully detect anyone with active or latent psionic/mental abilities. PR=2, Range = current Power x10 score in inches.
2. Mind Scan: As per Telepathy. PR=2.
3. Memory Alteration: Attacks as mind control. Allows him to alter the memories of his victim, either implanting false memories, or erasing others. PR=5 to implant or alter a memory, PR=10 to erase memories. Range = Charisma.

The Path to Eternity
Rameses (SC&C) has been unsealing long lost burial crypts near the Valley of Kings searching for a magic artifact and finds the prize he seeks: The Pyramid of Ptah, a small 6 inch Pyramid. When Rameses sacrifices a human, he can glimpse a moment in the time stream and make changes.
Running this in sequence behind Sands of Time, Rameses intervenes and plucks Pharaoh out of the time stream before his demise and weaves a yarn about how they are distant relations who must work together to make Pharaoh's original goal come to pass. The adventure takes place in the present and the world has somehow become Egyptopian. The heroes must find the two villains (who are remaking all ages into Egyptian dominance) across many different times and destroy the Pyramid to restore all to its rightful order. If the heroes do not have dimensonal travel abilities, Hourglass will -temporarily- turn to good as his old ally Pharaoh now hunts him so that he cannot undo what Rameses has helped him achieve after Hourglass failed him in the Sands of Time....
hmmm.... maybe

C.R.I.M.E. Wave

Several members of a leading organized crime family (who they are is left up to the GM to determine), have been attacked, and/or murdered by group of super-beings, over the past several months. The attackers are ruthless, in their assaults, and seem to be systematically tacking out members of the crime family, slowly working their way through the lieutenants and captains. Local law enforcement, and the feds are getting nervous as to how this will all end, and have asked for the hero(es) help in putting an end to the situation. Anyone with a knowledge of the underworld will be able to determine through their investigation (be it through contacts, informants, or who ever), that one of the local mobs is making a power play, and has hired C.R.I.M.E. (Super Crooks and Criminals & Alone into the Night), to eliminate the competition. Which members of C.R.I.M.E. are involved is left up to the GM to determine.

One way for the GMs to spice things up, is for the PCs to have a per-existing relationship with members of the crime family being targeted, and it doesn't have to be a cordial one. The PCs could be placed in the difficult situation of trying to protect a known drug dealer, arms merchant, street thug, or mob enforcer from being murdered by a C.R.I.M.E. assassin.

To really make things fun, have C.R.I.M.E. make their move while the their target is in the middle of some sort of criminal activity, like a drug deal with one of the local gangs. And the heroes have to wade into the melee, and sort it all out. It should make for some interesting role play.

Better yet, C.R.I.M.E.'s target could be an undercover law enforcement official, and he can't afford to have his cover blown, as he's still working the case.

My favorite is from "Opponents Unlimited"

As night falls, panic strikes the city; someone has stolen all the street lights!

Now just imagine how hard that would be to pull off and the kind of powers that would be required.

I posted these in "The Plot Seed Thread" on MHG in the "Major Characters" forum:
http://monkeyhousegames.com/?page_id=18&mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=280.0

During an adventure, one of the players rescues a reasonably attractive lady and drops her off in a safe spot. The woman is so grateful she flings her arms around the player and plants a big one right on his lips. Unfortunately, the press are nearby and get pics, film, etc. Afterwards, the press hound both the player and the lady to get more information about the “big kiss”. The player will likely downplay the publicity.

The lady on the other hand can either: openly state that the player and her are involved and give interviews, etc. In which case the press will automatically assume she’s tied to the player’s secret identity. Or the lady can downplay the publicity, avoid the press, etc. In which case the press will automatically assume she’s tied to the player’s secret identity.

This might go on for a week or two until one day an ex-boyfriend of the lady comes forward and announces that HE’S the player!? He gives interviews on CNN, Jay Leno, etc and gets his 15 minutes of fame…

…and promptly becomes a target of the player’s enemies.

This can produce several possible reactions: the player’s enemies can form a coalition (like Spider-Man’s Sinister Six or the like) or they can butt heads:

“I’m gonna kidnap you and hold you for ransom and then kill you!”

“No you’re not, I am!”

“Both of you get out of the way because he’s MINE!”

etc. Anything is possible.

After the ex-boyfriend disappears, the government (finally) decides to get involved. They want to investigate the player for possible fraud since they suspect the player registered himself with a fake secret identity. Since the ex-boyfriend is currently unavailable (and strangely, there’s no indication of a kidnapping), they hunt down and attempt to arrest the player.

New York City, Present Day
The man in the trench coat and hat quickly stepped into a McDonald’s to dry off from the torrential rain outside. As he sat down with his coffee, he removed only his hat. Even still, his trench coat poorly disguised his powerful black physique beneath. Staring out the window into the rain, he knew something was… wrong with the weather. It had rained nonstop for five days, and even these hairless animals in their “civilization” cage were starting to notice something wrong. Ever since the clouds burst open nearly a week ago, he realized that it wasn’t natural at all. It reminded him of some great beast that had been captured and forced to wear the reigns of men. It was as if the weather were… fighting… some invisible reigns that had been placed on it. It was clearly tiring, though. He could tell already that the weather would soon die down from fatigue. Whomever had placed these reigns on it had clearly won. He frowned. Such power should be his to command. Such power *would* be his!

“We interrupt this program…” blares from a nearby tv. As soon as the newscaster has spoken these words, the man’s Bishop level training immediately forces him into a calm. Now would be the time that these men would reveal themselves and their power. Now would begin his search for this power.

The newscaster states that they had received a tape from a person or group claiming responsibility for the storm. When the tape begins, a shadowy figure gives his demands.

Gazing intently at the tv, the man in the trench coat smiles. His smile is not one of humor. He sees the shadowy figure’s face quite clearly. “The shadows of evil are like beacons of light. He cannot hide his face from me. And the stone in his forehead is the source of his power. Soon I will have that power!”

After the tapes ends, the man considers the American response. He realizes immediately that most of the more powerful super teams will stay in America to protect their respective cities. The government will likely send a group of medium powered “heroes” to test this so called Doctor Apocalypse. Good. He would use his connections and he would follow these adventurers. And he would then TAKE this power from Doctor Apocalypse!

Headhunter (MW vol 3) vs Doctor Apocalypse.

This is a subplot for Death Duel with the Destroyers and The Island of Doctor Apocalypse. Basically, Headhunter uses his knowledge of C.H.E.S.S. to keep abreast of the player’s progress in these adventures and use his position to strike at Doctor Apocalypse. His goal is the head of Doctor Apocalypse.

GM’s notes:

Death Duel with the Destroyers

First off, Doctor Apocalypse flatly stated that this is merely a show of power so Headhunter will not take an active role here. He’s only interested in controlling the Doctor’s power, not confronting it.

In the event that Headhunter is at the confrontation in Times Square. He will have access to the following information:

1) All vigilantes present and their powers/weaknesses (but not identities)
2) All C.H.E.S.S. or government agencies present and any powers/weapons available to them
3) All law enforcement personnel present

In addition, he will also know everyone’s position and all details on any plans made. This is probably even more than the players will know. Headhunter will also have multiple contingency plans to ensure his escape in the event that he is discovered. These plans will allow him to escape with or without the use of his powers. These plans will be specifically designed to escape the players.

Headhunter will also have access to C.H.E.S.S. technology that will protect him from telepathy and anything else the GM can come up with. This should prevent nosy characters from finding out who he is in the event that he encounters them.

Headhunter will probably be disguised as a mid-level agent with a carrying case chained to his wrist. The case will contain three of his heads (C.H.E.S.S. agent and two heros) and his axe. The fourth space will be reserved in case Doctor Apocalypse’s head becomes available. Any questions about the case will be explained as “I was told to carry it and await further instructions. I have no further information”. Note that carrying the case in this fashion will still allow him to use the memories/powers of the heads.

Headhunter will be positioned in the “command center” for Times Square so that he will be kept abreast of what’s happening. Any actions that he takes here are entirely up to the GM, but it should be pointed out that if he’s caught here then the GM can’t through a monkey wrench in the player’s plans later.

The Island of Doctor Apocalypse
Whether or not Headhunter tries to be aboard the player’s ship to travel to the Nacht Island will have to be a judgement call by the GM. Flying under his own power using his Masher/Pulsar heads at the same time allows him to fly over 2000 mph without shifting to hyperflight.

On the other hand, traveling with the players allows him to carry equipment. His Bishop training will probably favor bringing additional equipment. This will probably include scuba gear, knockout gas/poison gas, etc. His plan will be to help the players defeat the Doctor and then defeat the players. He’ll probably try to make it look like the local occult group cut off the heads of the Doctor and player after both sides killed each other. But to ensure the occult group can’t deny this he’ll kill them too. Incidently, he’ll need an extra case for all the heads he plans to bring back.

Headhunter will be interested in exploring the archeological site whether the players are or not. He realizes that it might have something to do with the Doctor’s power and he’ll volunteer to check it out to “help” the players find out more about him. The players will probably consider this safe enough to get the pesky agent out the their way. Perfect! When Headhunter arrives at the tomb he finds EIGHT bodies of godlike beings  Uh oh...

Obviously, Headhunter will try to use at least one of the heads of the bodies.  Since the bodies are "ten feet tall", the skull (might) be able to fit over Headhunter's own head.

What happens next is up to the GM, but it's very likely that the god-like being will take over.  This can be justified because the god-like being isn't dead, but "banished".  This god-like being may also decide to act alone and leave his/her companions stranded (much the way Dr. Apocalypse did).  Obviously, Dr. Porky-Lips would need to be dealt with as well.

It should also be pointed out that the god-like being in Headhunter will be able to control Dr. Apocalypse's powers.  So the good doctor would suddenly find himself powerless and be unable to use the gem anymore.

My favorite is from "Opponents Unlimited"

As night falls, panic strikes the city; someone has stolen all the street lights!

Now just imagine how hard that would be to pull off and the kind of powers that would be required.

Apparently you've never been to Iraq, not single street light works, as every piece of copper wire, and light bulb has been stolen. And don't even get me started on how fast they can strip a car.  Cheesy  Wink

Well, my wife is from Detroit, about the same. We never drive our own cars up there...

I think the Iraqis, and the populations of many 3rd world countries for that matter, have several abilities.

Transmutation: Something from Nothing: Through sheer force of will, or through years of hard living, the character has the ability to cobble together usual everyday devices, out of the trash of others. This can range from lights, to pull carts, to working automobiles.

Heightened Senses: Sense Money: The character has the ability to detect if you have any money at all in your pockets. and then devise a way to get you to spend it on his wares.

Emotion Control: Pity: he character has the ability to sew a tale of woe, so sorrowful, that anyone within earshot is compelled to provide monetary assistance. A successful save vs. CHR or Willpower defense is necessary to succumbing.

Adaptation: The character has the ability to go without food, shelter, and clothing, in extremely harsh environments for extended periods of time. If given enough time, the character will begin to adapt to the environment around him, and slowly build some sort of society in the harsh environment.

the Psi-Phon plot could as an added twist turn out to be Mirage's handiwork, discovered after defeating and apprehending Psi-Phon.

oh, no, Acts of Vengeance was early 90s Marvel company-wide crossover where all the villians got together and switched enemies. wasnt plot-heavy (aside from cosmic spidey lol) but definitely a lot of lowbrow ridiculous undeniable fun.

The Seven Servants of Sargantas are on a VERY well coordinated crimespree, combining codewords & teamwork with divination assisted planning. Captain Floop offers the services of Lodestone in exchange for pardoned previous charges & a fee. Is it legit?...

Tank Gunner decides his hip replacement is forcing him into retirement and rather than getting a bigger tank, takes the ultimate plunge and volunteers for a cybernetic alteration program that integrates him into the chassis of experimental powered armor... he simply becomes known as TANK.

i enjoy the "sidebar 3 plotseeds per villain format" from the 5th ed Champions material as a basis, (like, 3-6 sentences each) then expand from a supervague idea. whenever possible i try to tie in other villains but i dont force it. I liked th Frigia seed

FORCE and Dr. Apocalypse Have Tea
As FORCE sipped his tea, he glanced idly at the spectacular view.  "Well Doctor, you have a very beautiful island and your androids are among the most advanced I've seen.  But what did you invite me all the way here to discuss?"

Doctor Apocalypse assumed a studied look.  "You and I share... similar and possibly complimentary goals.  We both want control; we simply have different means of pursuing it.  And our respective definitions of control need not conflict.  The world is a large place, friend FORCE.  Ruling a world takes time and much effort.  Perhaps by cooperating, if not working together, we could both achieve our desires."  The mad gleam in the Doctor's eyes never completely faded; it merely retreated into the background.  FORCE shivered in spite of himself.  Doctor Apocalypse was clearly insane.  And he was a kind of evil that FORCE had never encountered before nor cared to encounter again.

"I'm sure we could come to an agreement, Doctor.  Perhaps you would give me time to consider it?  In the meantime, I must return.  I have important business to attend to."  At this, Doctor Apocalypse froze.  "Your invitation explicitly stated your stay would be two days and nights" he said coldly.  FORCE stood up.  "Really, Doctor, I appreciate your hospitality but I have my own plans to attend to."

FORCE had already expected trouble.  Touching the transmitter hidden in his glove, he prepared himself for a fight.  "You didn't think I would come unprepared, did you?"  His strike team was mere seconds away.  The Doctor laughed.  "Your transmitter was scrambled the moment you stepped foot on my island, Mr. Emerson."  Even through the mask, FORCE was clearly surprised by this.  "Who is that...?" he asked weakly.  "I am very resourceful, Mr. Emerson.  My spies have been following you for quite some time.  Shall I reveal something else I know about you?  I knew you were an android the moment I saw the footage of your capture.  I've worked with androids for decades; I know how they move and act.  Once I realized this, I researched you further.  I desire your money and your church, Mr. Emerson.  Or should I call you 'Father Kinkaid'?"

FORCE's body simply refused to move.  The mad gleam in Doctor Apocalypse's eyes came front and center.  "Are you paralyzed, FORCE?  Even though I don't have precise information about your physiology, there are principles of motor control that apply to any android!"  Despite his paralysis, FORCE was still able to speak.  "So what happens now?"  Doctor Apocalypse smiled.  "Haven't you guessed?  I will study your physiology and transfer your  mind to a more... COMPLIANT model of android!"  His laugh echoed throughout the surrounding jungle.

FORCE considered his options.  Somehow, he had to get the players involved!

When I get more "spare" time, I've got some ideas for some new polot seeds for some of the newer characters that have been introduced over the last couple of years.

That was incredibly awesome, Display Name!!!  While I've never used FORCE and Doctor Apocalypse together, both of those villains (and their organizations) are ones that I am the coordinator for (in our campaign we take turns GMing, and each GM has a few bad guy groups).

I even did one issue a few years ago where some in the group encountered Doc Apoc in the first part, and others stumbled across FORCE later on!

I loved this, though.  Excellent writing!  Cool

The Alternates (Griffin, Grumpy, Grace and Gridlock) have rolled into town after receiving the email request of one, Jacob Tollier. Mr. Tollier blames one of our players for the death of his son, and promises the Alternates a tidy sum to capture this hero, and deliver them to the abandoned estate of The Church of Divine Harmony.

Tollier is mad, and blames our player for not saving his son from the Church, who he pushed to join. This sin can only be cleansed with blood sacrifice! Can our heroes save their comrade before it's too late? Will the Alternates discover a way to access the hidden lair beneath the church? Or will they alert a great evil to the fact that they also possess technology from Thorfin Enterprises?

C.R.I.M.E. Wave

The heroes are called in to assist the local authorities, after a series of hi-tech thefts in the area. Who calls the heroes in, and what’s been stolen, is left up to the GM to determine. After a bit of old fashioned detective work, it’s determined that all the thefts are somehow linked to each other (if the players can’t figure this out for themselves, a successful detect hidden roll will allow them to discover the pattern), it’s left up to the GM to determine exactly how they’re liked. The heroes will also be able to discover that those responsible for the thefts are members of the criminal organization, C.R.I.M.E. exactly which members of C.R.I.M.E. are involved is left up to the GM). Who’s hired them to commit the thefts is left up to the GM. It’s suggested that their employer be someone familiar to the heroes, and who up to this point has been able to keep his hands from getting dirty, as local prosecutors haven’t been able to make anything stick.

I am really enjoying his thread. There are a lot of seeds I can adapt and "germinate," if you will, to suit my particular taste and setting. I have some partial stories/plots worked up, and a few that actually got played out at the table. I'll try to get then together so I can contribute here.

I really like when I see plot seeds that would no have occurred to me!

Intercrime: Hostile Takeover

"...final episode airs tonight! on WomenOnly tv!"

A quick mental nudge, and the tv turned off.  Motivator frowned in disgust.  A second mental nudge brings up her virtual phone.  "Howard." she says flatly.  The phone dials and rings.

A male voice answers.  "Who the ^&$% is this?  This is a private phone!"

"Good afternoon, Howard.  It *is* afternoon where you are, isn't it?" Motivator asks sweetly.

"I said 'Who the ^&$% IS this?'" the male voice says gruffly.

"I'm sorry, Howard!  This is Motivator!  I'm afraid we've never met..."

"Lady, you just &%^$ up!  You'd better be calling to &$%^$!"

"Why, no, Howard.  But I appreciate the offer.  I'm actually calling about a television show owned by one of your networks named 'My Secret Romance'.  It seems that they're..."

"Lady, I don't even know what you're talking about!  I don't own any networks.  I'm broke, in fact.  Can you loan me $20?" the man replies with a laugh.  In the background, a voice is heard faintly, "We've almost got her!"

Motivator sighs.  "Really, Howard.  I was simply calling to negotiate purchasing of the rights to the series.  You can consider it a favor to me, which I can return in the future when necessary."

"Huh?  You want to BUY the series?  You LIKE that crap?  We stole those stories from romance paperbacks!"  Laughing, Howard is heard shouting to his companions, "Hey, get this!  The big, bad, Motivator chick really digs 'My Secret Romance!'"  Laughter is heard all around in the background.

"Enough, you sniveling worm!  You *dare* laugh at me?  Very well. Soon I will own this series, and I will make you a star!  In the meantime I will shower while your boys attempt to find me."

As Motivator walks away, Howard can be heard "Hello?  The crazy ^%$& put me on hold!  Find her!"

By the time Dr. Frost stepped from the shower, she had already created a plan.  The "anonymous leader" theme was amusing but useful to her purposes.  Walking back into her living room, she asks "Well, Howard?  Have you had any luck?"

"I'll sell you the show for $750,000." Howard says quickly.

Motivator laughs.  "Howard, if you had simply handed the rights over to me you would have saved that amount immediately.  But negotiations have already ended.  Tonight at 8:45 you will be sitting in jail."  She left out the part where she would be in charge of Intercrime at that time as well.

"What, you got a crystal ball or something?" Howard snarled.

"No, Howard.  Goodbye."  After considering, she decided that Howard had no future as an actor.  Oh, well.  Humiliation was extremely simple for someone like him.  Undecided, she sighs "Oh well, I'll let Harold choose how he wants to be humiliated."  She could restart production of "My Secret Romance" by the next week.  Controlling Intercrime would be fun for a while, but she already knew it would eventually bore her.  In the MEANtime, however...!  Motivator smiles.

Glancing at the clock, she begins preparations.

Twilight of the Dark Master

This plot "seed" is based on the Japanese anime of the same name:
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=89

If you haven't seen the anime you might not want to.  It has extremely graphic violence (people getting their limbs ripped off and then SHOWING the limb in the demon's mouth, etc), extremely naked chicks, etc.  But the plot itself was kinda cool, so I figured I'd make a V&V ripoff.

**SPOILER ALERT**

Introduction
In 1980 on a clear (winter, spring, summer, fall)'s night, between 2:30 - 3:00 a.m., in (insert city name here) several reports were called in to the police department of gunfire/explosions.  Police responding to the scene witnessed a white haired metahuman who was flying and using flame powers against some sort of ogre/demon creature approx 7 - 9 feet tall.  The ogre had super strength and basically hurled cars, etc at the metahuman.  The metahuman took no particular care to avoid property damage or harm to anyone who happened to be nearby.  The police were forced to withdraw from the senseless carnage and summoned the local hero group.  The (insert ancient hero group name here) arrived on the scene in time to witness a huge explosion equivalent to a small nuke.  Quickly responding to the disaster, the hero group saved as many people as they could.  Unfortunately there were still dozens of casualties and hundreds of injuries.

Investigation showed that the damage from the explosion was caused by eldritch (magical) energy in the form of fire.  Residual eldritch radiation was still present.  It was, however, determined that the radiation was not harmful in itself and neither innately good nor evil.  It was also determined that the radiation would quickly fade.  Over the course of the next few weeks, scanning revealed that the magical residue did indeed fade and disappear.

The fate of the metahuman and ogre was never clearly determined.  It was assumed that they both perished in the blast.

Life went on.  Everything seemed to get more or less back to normal except that the local underworld became much more violent.  The area where the explosion occurred became seedier and crime increased every year.  Gang violence increased.  Investigations could not find a connection of the increased crime to the mysterious battle that occurred on that fateful night.

GM's introduction and background
This adventure takes place in a large metropolitan city that has an organized criminal element (local Mafia/Yakuza/etc).  If your adventure party is a bunch of country bumpkins then arrangements should be made for them to be the lead investigators in a nearby large city.  You could say that the hero group in that city is currently out of town/off planet/in another dimension and the players were asked to stand in temporarily.  You could then simply have the police get in touch with the players unless Doctor Doom decides that their beloved Mayberry is the key to world domination.

If your players are big city folk, then this adventure would work fine as a part of their normal everyday grind.  You should, however, be prepared for situations where the players ask silly questions like "My player was ON the city's police force in 1980!  How come he's never heard of this?!" or "Our team was here in 1980, but we never did that!", etc.  It could be justified a number of ways; like saying "That was the time your team were on the Island of Dr. Apocalypse and a nearby team was working here temporarily", etc.  A little preparation will ensure that this adventure fits seemlessly into your regular campaign.

The white haired metahuman is actually an angel named Tsunami (with FLAME powers; go figure).  He's part of a group of angels called the Watchers (or whatever less-cliche'd name you prefer) who were assigned to protect humans from demons.  These angels are not overly concerned with protecting individuals as much as the human race as a whole.  This is why they're generally careless in battle.  These angels have been protecting the earth for thousands of years.

Anyway, as it turns out neither Tsunami nor the demon were killed in the blast.  Tsunami used his Gotterdamerung spell in a desperate attempt to destroy the demon.  Unfortunately, he failed.  But since he was never completely sure he became a local private investigator in an attempt to determine if the demon survived and to kill him once and for all.

The demon was, of course, badly injured in the fight.  He assumed a human form and escaped in the aftermath.  He has since taken up residence in the local criminal organization and has, over the years, achieved a very high level of rank.  He's also working with a local pharmaceutical company to develop a drug that will convert a human victim into a demon.  He will use all of the new demon's blood to regain his own demonic form and become even more powerful than before.  The victim, of course, cannot be just anyone.  The criteria for the victim can be determined by the GM, but the general idea is that the victim should be incorruptably good and be an excellent specimen of humanity.  For this adventure I'll use Mr. Local Police Hero as the victim.

It's suggested that Tsunami escape at the end of this adventure because he is, after all, an angel.

Present day
As the players are watching tv late at night a newscaster interupts with a special news bulletin.  A local (minor) celebrity was attacked in her home by an unknown assailant.  Miss Minor Celebrity was getting ready to wed Mr. Local Police Hero in a few weeks.  Miss Celebrity was injured very badly and was taken to the (local hospital name).  Police are currently at the scene investigating.  Mr. Local Police Hero is currently unavailable for comment.  More updates will follow shortly.

When the players arrive at Miss Celebrity's house they'll find the living room area ransacked by something big with claws.  Police were summoned when neighbors reported a domestic disturbance and discovered Miss Celebrity on the floor in the living room.  Miss Celebrity sustained nearly fatal wounds and was taken to the hospital.

If the players choose not to investigate the scene of the crime, they should be defeated by a gang of elderly bank robbers and stripped naked on national tv for their negligence.

GM's notes
The GM can determine the precise circumstances himself, but the run down is this: Mr. Local Police Hero arrived home in the late evening and then transformed into Mr. Bad and Ugly.  Miss Minor Celebrity witnessed the transformation and was attacked.  Mr. Bad and Ugly didn't finish her off (he probably still vaguely remembered his love for her) and left.  He made his way to a local park or whatever suits the GM and was captured by the highly trained thugs working for the pharmaceutical company.  The players should not be allowed to capture the beast nor determine the precise details of where he disappeared to.  If the players do manage to capture Mr. Bad and Ugly, then the pharmaceutical company should become involved in the investigation.  Their goals are: 1) prevent the discovery of the pharmaceutical company's involvement, 2) obtain ALL of the creature's blood (at the expense of his life).  If the players discover that Mr. Bad and Ugly was being taken to the pharmaceutical company then it will likely blow the company's cover wide open.  The company will of course claim that they happened upon the beast by coincident and merely wanted to capture the beast for study.  Of course they had every intention of cooperating with authorities.

If Mr. Bad and Ugly is successfully and secretly captured by the pharmaceutical company, then it's unlikely he will escape (GM's option).  The pharamceutical company will feed him human bodies.  These bodies can be obtained a number of ways.  One idea is a local gang war (captured on security cameras).  Witnesses and cameras will show that approximately 12 casualties were incurred, but when police arrive only 7 bodies were recovered and the cameras disabled.  Disappearing people/bodies should occur under mysterious circumstances and generally leave very little evidence.  However, not that many bodies will be necessary to feed Mr. Ugly until his blood is ready for extraction, so players need to move fast before the demon regains his power.

The pharmaceutical company employs a couple of demons who happen to be brother and sister (and lovers-yech!).  They can fly and utilize air-control powers that look pretty cool in the anime.  In addition, the company employees the usual criminal thugs.  These thugs are given access to a drug that turns a human into an ogre (not demon) temporarily.  The drug is eventually fatal if taken repeatedly.  If any blood samples of Mr. Bad and Ugly and the ogre thugs are obtained and studied, then the drug found in Mr. Ugly's system will be found to be similar to the drug used by the thugs.  Obviously, Mr. Bad and Ugly will not consent to a blood sample being taken, nor will the ogre thugs.  So getting these two samples side by side to compare will be a bit difficult.  And, of course, if the pharmaceutical company is involved in the investigation this information will be even harder to determine ("What drug?!  Their blood contains no drugs!").

Meanwhile, Miss Minor Celebrity is in the hospital.  If players interview her, she probably can't give too many details except that her fiance is a lot meaner and uglier.  Someone involved in the investigation should point out to the heroes that Mr. Bad and Ugly strongly resembles the ogre in the 1980 battle.  This could be an officer or doctor who's the son/daughter of a witness to the 1980 incident.  Players should probably realize that Mr. Local Police Hero couldn't be the same ogre because he wasn't born yet, or was much too young, etc and that he's never been unusual in any way before.

Secretly, Miss Celebrity is determined to find her fiance and either rescue/cure him or kill/avenge him.  Her contacts with the police department have led her to a local private detective with a specialization for paranormal phenomenon.

This detective has long white hair (worn in a pony tail to disguise himself) but is otherwise very professional and knowledgeable.  He keeps her on the sidelines and basically in the dark, but he is determined to solve her case.  His investigation will inevitably cross paths with the players.  He should be portrayed as a regular human and his resemblance to the metahuman of 1980 should be downplayed ("It can't be him!  He hasn't aged a bit!", etc).  The players will automatically assume it's him though and probably investigate.  Investigation should reveal a normal background and that he was too young in 1980 to be the metahuman, etc.

The GM should determine the schedule of events in this adventure.  Miss Minor Celebrity will probably take a while to recover enough to leave the hospital, but she'll still be able to contact Tsunami and put him on the case.  As mentioned previously, it shouldn't take too long after Mr. Bad and Ugly's transformation to complete the process of preparing him for the true demon to utilize his blood.  If Miss Local Celebrity gets out of the hospital, she will probably be persistantly getting in the way and might even be on hand for the final confrontation (GM's option).  Tsunami will be at least up to speed on the player's investigation and might be a step ahead of them.

When the final confrontation occurs, the true demon will be much more powerful than thirty years ago.  If he manages to get Mr. Bad and Ugly's blood for his transformation he'll be virtually unstoppable.

Two cribbed from a collection of short stories called "The Pulptress" which I can pretty wholeheartedly recommend to anyone liking the old school pulps and low powered supers in general.

1) The man in the painting.  The heroes have come to hear about a friend whose family is renovating an old house, but the history of the manse leaves everyone leery.  There have been many deaths over the years, and no one knows why!  Only desiccated corpses remain to tell of something sinister.  Now, inhabited for the first time in years, the players have been asked to investigate so that the family can reclaim their home.  The truth is complex.  During WW2, the family scion was deployed in Germany and brought back a strange painting with the image of a stern and cruel man in front of a castle.  A small group of people could be seen in terror or pain behind him.  Over the years, the number of people has grown as the villain is none other than Baron Von Spacklepants! (Okay, make up your own scary Prussian name), a vampire trapped in the painting who comes out to feed on the souls around him to maintain his immortality.  Now he is almost strong enough to break free of the painting forever, and he has a smorgasbord of souls to choose from to push him over the top.  The house was abandoned after the first night when the young soldier's parents died in the house.  He fought the monster and thought he killed it, but he could never come back to the house, and left it empty.
Now for the vampire, surviving off of the drifters that squatted in the house while it was abandoned is a thing of past!  (Use Baron Victor Von Heinrich from Terror by Night if you want a truly tough vampiric baddie). The heroes have to put down the Baron and destroy the painting to set the souls free and end the vampire's reign of terror.  (Idea 2 in next message)

2) Rockets Red Glare.  The (Fill in enemy group here.  Intergang, Foreign saboteurs, whatever works for your world) have decided that they are tired of seeing the International Space Station lazing about the sky like some symbol of hope and cooperation, and it's time to end that immediately!  Based out of a small hotel near Cape Canaveral, the baddies are about to test their device, an aimed EMP, at the next International Space Station resupply rocket, due to take off in just days!  If the test succeeds, the baddies will move on to destroying the space station itself.  The heroes must find the hotel (There would me MASSIVE electrical requirements) and stop the bad guys.

Good ones, proditorcappela.  I especially like "The Pulptress".  I suppose that, if the PCs really examine things carefully, the pictures in the background of the painting represent the individuals taken by the vampire (so comparisons to pictures and the like could reveal this).

Motivator vs. Dr. Apocalypse

Karen loved lying in the sun soaking up the rays.  Typically, she preferred to do so in the nude because she hated tan lines.  But she knew that would be out of the question here.  In fact, it was all she could do to avoid vomiting.  As a telepath, it was annoying to "hear" the filthy thoughts of the perverted apes that somehow seemed to find their way into her presence.  But here, on Pietor's island; at his private villa no less, the thoughts she had to shield herself from were downright inhuman.  The androids weren't a problem, of course.  The males were neutered and the females were surprisingly flattering with their dirty thoughts (considering who programmed them.)  But Pietor had clearly lost touch with humanity a very long time ago and his thoughts of "sex" were violent and... something else she preferred not to think about.

Still, he was nearly as intelligent and resourceful as herself.  Despite this, he was still obviously a very lonely person with no one but androids to serve his filthy needs.  Ugh!  She hated to even think about the things she had seen in his mind!  His loneliness was the key to manipulating him into doing her bidding.  By allowing the (players) to interfere with their carefully laid plans, she could shift the blame to them for the failure while still achieving her own goals.  She had to be careful, though.  One misstep WOULD cost her her life.

Interesting.  Especially as in my Guardians game, these two villains (well, their forces) have been having a massive, ongoing battle with each other, especially across Europe.  It's one of many plot threads done by my friend John (greycrusader over on the FGU Forums).

Intercrime: Hostile Takeover, Part Two

Motivator smiled.  Since taking control of Intercrime, her personal fortune had nearly tripled.  In keeping with tradition, she remained the "anonymous leader" and ran things through intermediaries.  It was much better than she had anticipated, in fact.  At first she had simply allowed things to be business as usual to avoid alerting authorities and pesky vigilantes of anything out of the ordinary.  Any changes made were simply to streamline existing operations and to increase security.  Eventually, she began venturing into more legitimate operations in political and military arenas.  It amused her that the previous leaders had been too short-sighted to realize the advantages of legitimacy.  Currently, her legitimate ventures accounted for thirty percent of the total income and were slowly (but steadily) increasing.  If she gave up on Intercrime she would have to end these operations because the clod that would likely take her place wouldn't have the brains to sustain them and she didn't want to ruin any future endeavors of her own.

Of course, her main reason for taking control of Intercrime was to continue production of her favorite soap opera "My Secret Romance."  Hiring new script writers and using her own ideas for each episode's plot had taken the series from being the least rated show all the way to the number one viewed show on television.  She had even released it overseas.  It was a surprisingly huge hit in Korea.

Harold was now in charge of makeup on the set of her show.  He had turned out to be remarkably good at it.  Of course, he didn't have a cosmetology license and was currently in school to get it, but she was more than willing to pay for that.  The best part was that she didn't even have to use her abilities to "adjust" his attitude.  Simple blackmail had convinced him to cooperate.

Dr. Frost sighed.  The only fly in her ointment was (the players).  Her plan to use Doctor Apocalypse to help her take control of Intercrime had worked.  She had even redirected his wrath against them and THEY had paid the price for HER deception.  Pietor was a genius, but a strategist he definitely was NOT.  She had played him effortlessly and in the end his efforts had landed him in jail.  Thankfully, he was a perfect gentleman towards her and never once revealed her involvement.  She had considered mind-wiping him, but realized his intellect would realize something in his memory was "missing" and he would eventually figure things out.  But she knew he wouldn't betray her; he was more than a little in "love" (lust?) with her.  Unfortunately, (the players) weren't as stupid as they looked and suspected Pietor had had an accomplice.  And they didn't dismiss the rumors about Intercrime's "hostile takeover" like everyone else did, either.  She didn't make any mistakes; they were just too paranoid and REALLY needed to relax!

Hmmm...  "Relax."  That idea presented some interesting possibilities!  Maybe (the players) need a vacation!  There was the Canadian Legion, the Soviet Red Sentinels, and the Antarctic Defenders.  Or even a trip to Malawi?

Thanks!  Hopefully it will instigate some mischief!   Cheesy

Since these are more "stories" than actual "plot seeds" it would take some work to implement them in a live campaign.

The legacy of Count Dante

Intended for street level heroes (Daredevil, original Iron Fist, Moon Knight, Nightwing, Robin, Huntress, etc.)

The characters find out that the local martial arts inclined criminal organization (Triads, Yakuza, The Hand, The Foot, whatever fits) is on a tear through the grim and gritty streets of OUR FAIR CITY in a quest to track down the final legacy of Count Juan Raphael Dante. (For those of you not in the know, go read these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Count_Dante

http://thesearchforcountdante.com/blog/

http://www.thelastdragontribute.com/count-dante-the-greatest-story-never-told/

So, the quest becomes, is the Black Dragon society real and defending the lost secret of Dim Mak?!?! Ranging from Chinatown to Chinatown in multiple cities, the heroes should encounter foes also trying to beat the criminal organization to the goal, or possibly even working for them! DragonFist, Kali, maybe Spyder if you're feeling cruel.

It should unfold like Big Trouble in Little China. It starts with street gangs and the heroes mowing them down like cord wood, and eventually escalates and becomes less gritty, and more supernatural on the quest to find the legendary showman's last opus.

Now the big reveal is left to you. Did Dante really know the secret of Dim Mak? Or is this just a collection of hair styling secrets circa 1970? (Which are still good enough to get you working on playmates. I'm just sayin'.)

Based on the Young Justice episode "Coldhearted" (season 1, episode 20)

Dr. Apocalypse is at it, again!  This time his dreaded cloaked satellite has caused the entire United States to be blanketed in snow!  Airlines are shut down.  Road traffic has been all but paralyzed.  Strangely, the good Doctor has not made any announcement of this fact, nor any demands.

Little does the world know that (important figure), CEO of the Endiama corporation (which owns 32.8% of the fourth largest diamond mine in the world,) has traveled to the United States to receive a heart transplant.  President Leopold Linus III has paid Dr. Apocalypse a huge sum of money to Doctor Apocalypse to shut down all air and ground traffic in the United States in an effort to prevent delivery of the heart from (somewhere across the country.)  With the death of the current CEO, President Linus III plans to:
1) Quietly replace him with an android developed by Dr. Apocalypse or FORCE
2) Replace him with someone loyal to Leo
3) Bankrupt the country of Angola and conquer it through economic/political means instead of warfare
4) All of the above

The players will be given the assignment of transporting the donor heart a long distance (the United States is approx 2200 miles across, so have fun!)  They'll probably not be informed of the identity of the recipient beyond the fact that (s)he's "...an important diplomatic visitor" or some such.  During the course of transporting the heart, they'll likely be engaged by Leo's goons and will eventually learn of Leo's interest.  Leo will not likely be present for this adventure, but can contact the players if they figure things out (ie: "You've spoiled my plans AGAIN!")  The Russians and the Chinese can also get involved to complicate things if the GM likes, since they both have a stake in the mine.

The player's failure can create quite a number of outcomes that can adversely affect Angola's economic and political stability for years to come.  Good luck!

Dr. Pisces is a brilliant scientist trapped in the body of a goldfish, placed inside an android body.  Attempts to regain his form have failed, and so he plans to give everyone a reason to become a fish!

He hires mercs to steal rocket components, a laser specialist, and a large ruby.  His plan is simple, using the laser he will heat the bedrock of Antarctica, melting the ice caps more quickly, raising the sea level dramatically.  The populace will flock to him to be transformed into fish!

(Whether this is something that can actually work, or just the fevered dream of a man turned fish, is up to the GM).

A charity asks the heroes to donate their time and appear on their live television special.
Is the charity one that holds views opposite one of the PCs?  If so, will he refuse to attend?
"A live television event showing the location of our arch enemies?  How can the Evil Eight not attacK?"  Villains attack en masse - shooting fish in a barrell.  If the PCs win, donations flood in, as the battle was televised.

During the first day of a full moon, a motorist was attacked in his car, just outside of Campaign City Park.  A savage, rending assault that left the man torn to shreds, obviously the work of some large animal, like a bear.

There is no bear in the Park, but rather, poor Ray Timmins maintains an office nearby, and during the full moon transforms into Wolfworg.  He will be active for the 3-5 days the moon is full, attempting to kill anyone he can find near the park.

Police and hunters are no match for his ferocity.  When the PCs show up, Wolfworg will emply hit and run tactics as much as possible, fleeing to avoid capture.

A plant based villain, (devices designed around a plant theme) contacts the PCs:

"Months ago I was recruited by a few other plant based supers into the Verdant League.  We are bent on preventing man's destruction of nature.  Perhaps you've heard of our work in Brazil?"
She clears her throat, "We've had a good couple of months down there, spiking trees and ruining tractors."  Cough. "But recently the group has developed a desire to become something more radical.  One of the villains has an absolute hatred for mankind and just recently said she had perfected a poison that would kill humans but leave plants and animals untouched."  Clears throat, coughs, "They have been discussing it's widespread use.  But I'm human!  This is just a suit!  They supposedly have an antidote for themselves, but I'm a people person!"  Cough.  "Could I get a glass of water?  My hope is you can stop them."

Suddenly she gags, and her chest swells and her body bursts, releasing a creature composed of vegetation!

The plant creature assaults the PCs.  They are able to find information as to the location of the base within the smart phone of the deceased plant girl.

The Verdant Legion are based in the Jungles of Brazil.  The weapon is being mass produced by the villains, growing giant puffballs to use in spreading the poison.  Spread by the wind, the poison cloud could cover the Earth in 2 weeks.

"Fool's!  You are too late to stop us!  Already our first puffballs are being taken up the mountain for release!  You cannot stop us!"   Perhaps a puffball or two are released and must be hunted down and destroyed.

(I have a number of plant based villains in my campaign, but Shilleagh and Black Orchid from the books would work.  Even a corrupt Evergreen?  I love this idea especially for the goofiness of the world being threatened by giant puffballs.)

Some of these are rather nice.

The plant one and Dr Fishbowl especially.

Not hyper keen on the Motivator one... Especially the perverse DrA angle. But it actually had merit otherwise and I did something similar... Though mine included my/inspired villain Magnet Man in the mix.

Great ideas though... Excellent imagination

What I like about the Fish guy is melting all that ice would "only" raise sea level about 200 feet but then would cause so much cold fresh water to enter the Gulf Stream it an Ice Age would ensue. Hope Fish guy is a salt water variety Smiley

It's interesting how different people's interpretations can be of the exact same character!?

Given her powers COMBINED with her high-order intelligence/charisma I've always seen her as a completely overwhelming force: she can listen to the players thoughts from literally a half-mile away and Mind Control from slightly over a third of a mile away.  That's why I've always interpreted her as largely uninvolved except for very specific goals.

I've seen your hints that you see Dr. Frost as being much more evil and would love to see how you use her!

Are you referring to the Arctic?

Historically, the Antarctic was believed to be ice-free, so Phrennzy's plot seed can take an unexpected turn:
http://www.ancientdestructions.com/piri-reis-map-of-antarctica/

Lost civilizations, ancient evils frozen in the wastes, etc.

Meanwhile...

As it turns out, Headhunter decided not to get involved in the Island of Doctor Apocalypse.  There was no strategic value in participating.  He merely bided his time and used his Bishop level clearance to access Doctor Apocalypse's island when things quieted down.  CHESS had come and gone, and the entrance to the strange temple excavation has been "sealed" with evidence tape pending further investigation.  But the tape was cut as soon as the last CHESS agent was gone.  Headhunter smiled and entered the temple.

Noting the mummified remains in the center of the chamber, his attention was drawn immediately to his right when he heard his daughter laughing.  Wait!  Not Otinka's daughter!  Otinka had no children!  It was Dr. Bells' GRANDdaughter!  Suspecting a trap, his curiosity nevertheless won out as he approached the sarcophagus.  As he gazed upon the skeletal remains, he could not believe his good fortune!  Powerful beings with their heads simply left behind!  He would enslave four of them!  But not yet.  For now, he would only use one.

Unfortunately, his axe broke while chopping the neck of the creature.  Oh, well.  It's not as if he were helpless.  He still had great power from the skulls he already possessed.  But now he would have even more.  Setting Dr. Bells' skull aside, he placed the new skull over his head.

Screams echoed from the temple into the valley the entire night.  It was clear to those who heard that the sound wasn't entirely human.

As the sun rose, a figure emerged from the temple.  The figure was an amalgam of a human and a ten foot tall creature with some sort with horns.  The creature had a skeletal appearance.  The power from Headhunter's skulls had been completely absorbed.  The creature roared as it leapt into the sky and flew away with a sonic boom.

Maximum Security Paranormal Prison:
Dr. Pietor Apoucalos, presumed asleep in his prison cell, is suddenly heard screaming horribly.  The screaming continues for hours before a doctor is finally called in to see him.  The players are contacted and informed of Dr. Apoucalos' behavior, which includes screaming bloody murder, claiming that "they" were coming and that he could no longer stop them, etc.  Inexplicably, his gem no longer works.  But since the prison will not release his power dampeners under any circumstances no one knows that yet.

So what now?
The creature has all of Headhunter's powers and the powers of the skulls he was carrying at the time.  It also has the power that the gem no longer gives to Dr. Apocalypse.  The creature's goal is to "encourage" Doctor Apoucalos to finish the ritual.  This can be problematic because the creature will not be resurrected like the rest of it's comrades (GM's option.)

September 12, 2001. Alternate timeline. Emergency meeting of high ranking government and military personnel.

The Day After

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I've called this meeting to discuss the implications of yesterday's vigilante intervention in the largest-scale terrorist attack in American history" the general stated matter-of-factly.

"Can we go over the details of what happened?" a congressman asked. "I was on vacation and only just returned for this meeting. The news isn't really clear on the details."

One of the eminent scientists answered "The data we have from the flight recorder is not possible. I'm still waiting on the maintenance reports."

"An eyewitness in the cabin confirmed what the flight recorder told us" the general replied. Shuffling through some papers, he continued. "Let's see... Barbara Lewis. One of the flight attendants. The terrorists used her to gain access to the cockpit, and she woke up in time to see the vigilante take control of the plane."

"...And? What happened?" the congressman asked again, irritably.

After an awkward pause the general continued. "Passengers reported that the vigilante appeared from the flight attendant station in the rear of the plane.  He subdued two terrorists in the passenger section.  Then he entered the unlocked cockpit and apparently subdued the terrorists there.  This is when the stewardess... er, 'flight attendant' gained consciousness.   The vigilante seated himself in the pilot's seat and seemed...  Well, she says '...unfamiliar at first but definitely a supernatural pilot!'  Whatever that means.  Apparently the plane was too close to the towers to veer away, so the vigilante rolled the plane on it's side and flew BETWEEN the buildings."  The general cleared his throat and continued. "Rolling the plane on its side caused it to rapidly lose altitude.  Our estimates place it at..." The general shuffled the papers some more "...a few feet from the ground at it's lowest point. The plane flew between buildings until finally clearing Manhattan. At one point, the plane collided with a clothes line and clogged the outer engine of the wing on the 'low' side. We estimated the 'few feet' that I mentioned based upon the height of the clothes line in relation to the position of the engine it clogged. Once clear of the city the vigilante leveled the plane while reassuring the passengers through the intercom. The clogged engine exploded sometime after the plane leveled out but the vigilante activated fire control and extinguished it quickly. The engine explosion was probably the cause of the multiple reports we had of the plane crashing. After contacting a nearby flight control tower, the vigilante landed the plane safely and disappeared. I mean, we don't know where he went at that point."

Another awkward pause ensued. Finally, the scientist spoke again. "As I said, I'm obtaining the maintenance records of the flight recorder. Because even if this kid had the training AND the reflexes AND the NERVES OF STEEL to do this, the plane was not capable of what the data shows."

"Where is the vigilante now?" the congressman asked. "We don't know" the general replied. "He hasn't made any public appearances anywhere since.  We believe he was one of the passengers on the plane, but federal law prevents us from investigating a law-abiding vigilante in the absence of a crime. So we couldn't search the passengers to see who had an extra pair of long johns.  We have a list but we can't act on it."

After drinking some water, the general continued. "This incident has implications far beyond saving a plane load of passengers. We have a *kid* who appears to be like any kid you'd see on one of those stupid reality shows. But this kid has abilities that we can't even guess. It doesn't take super strength to fly a plane. Nor Invisibility, telepathy, whatever. What did he DO to make that plane fly like that?  And who even has the nerve to do something like this?  Sideways at over five hundred miles per hour through downtown Manhattan?  With a plane scraping the paint off the road?  I would have dismissed it as a joke if we didn't have eyewitness accounts and a flight recorder.  Can we trust someone like this?  Do we dare?"

Silence descended as each person pondered what they'd just heard.

Temporal Coordinates: Hyborian Age

Neville Taylor smiled, tossing the large gemstone that the sorcerer had sold them into the air and catching it deftly.  Things had turned out alright after all.  Leaning back on the luxurious couch in one of the private rooms of the Aquilonian Fortress, he reviewed the events of the past few weeks.

Revisiting New Mexico, he and Maxima had busted a cartel from across the border that had stolen Maxima's time travel vehicle.  After crippling the biggest drug smuggling operation on the southern US border, law enforcement and the media were too distracted to notice Maxima quietly remove her vehicle from the cartel's secret laboratory along with all of their research.  A trusted engineer friend of Neville's studied the research and speculated that it might have nearly reached the point of making the vehicle operational.  Hmmm...!  Neville and Maxima left the vehicle with their friend and continued doing odd jobs as bounty hunters.  One day, a few months after dropping off the vehicle, Neville called his friend to check in.  His friend was very excited!  "I've been trying to get in touch with you!  I believe I can make it work by later tonight!"  Extremely excited, Neville immediately chartered a flight to New Mexico (commercial airlines were out of the question because Maxima was just too heavy.)  On the flight, he considered the possibilities...  His friend had told him that according to the research, making changes in the current timeline wasn't possible with this machine.  This was disappointing, of course, but it's TIME TRAVEL!  Surely other possibilities existed...  At the very least, Max could revisit the 31st century* and be retrained on her mission!  The memory loss she suffered and the anxiety of possibly failing her mission had severely traumatized someone who wasn't even ten years old yet!

Upon arriving at their friend's home, they were shocked to find that the front door was left open and the house ransacked.  Their friend and his entire family had been kidnapped!  And the time travel device had been stolen as well!  Somehow though, the research the engineer had been studying had been deleted.  Apparently the engineer was a wise man!  Finding their friend and rescuing him and his family quickly, Neville presented his idea of returning to the 31st century to retrain Maxima.  "But how will you survive the hostile environment" his friend asked.  "Don't worry about me, I have a plan for that" Neville replied.  He neglected to mention the "Amulet of Life" the friendly mage had given them for helping him with that troglodyte problem.  Based on the mage's description, an environment destroyed by a nuclear/biological/nanite/arcane war would be a piece of cake with the amulet.  Hopefully he was honest!  Heh...

Unfortunately, the engineer had to program the time travel vehicle from memory.  This produced the predictable result of sending them deep into Earth's past before civilization as we know it had even begun.  After a few harrowing adventures, they encountered an extremely advanced civilization that was able to completely repair the craft and program it to return them to the present.  With a few extra gemstones and gold pieces, of course!

Elsewhere...

Conan carefully climbed the tower where he knew the bard and his lover Akivasha were staying for the night.  They had the sorcerer's gem, and he meant to have it for himself.  He realized that the bard had probably been bitten by Akivasha and was immortal.  He would have to plunge his sword into the bard's heart to kill it.

Finally, Conan reached the window of the bard and Akivasha's room.  At this height, only a curtain was used to prevent entry into the room.  Gently moving the curtain every so slightly, Conan had a clear view of the entire room.  The vampire princess was nowhere to be seen.  The bard was reclining on a couch, casually tossing the sorcerer's gem in the air and catching it.  Quietly drawing his sword, Conan suddenly ripped the curtain away and leapt into the room.  The bard was completely taken by surprise as Conan expertly ran the bard through with his sword precisely in the location of the heart.

"Nev, I was just looking over the..." Maxima said as she coincidentally entered the room.  Seeing Neville clutching at a broadsword that had completely skewered him was horrifying enough by itself.  It was impossibly MORE horrifying when Conan unceremoniously put his foot against Neville's chest and yanked his sword free. Maxima rushed to Neville's side, unsure of what to do.  Without even noticing, she raised her arm to block Conan's swing with his sword.  She gasped as the sword CUT her!  Looking at the wound produced by the sword and seeing the blood ooze forth caused Maxima to panic!  She lashed out at Conan with all of her might and caused his head to almost literally explode with her punch.

"<Help!  Oh, please help>" Maxima screamed in the local language.  Her incredible intellect had allowed her to achieve fluency in at least three languages since they had arrived.  That's spoken AND written.
Almost immediately, guards were on hand.  "<Get us a healer, NOW>" one of the guards barked.  A very young girl was brought in.

Neville was still conscious.  Upon seeing the very young girl enter the room he would have chuckled if it didn't hurt so much.  "How can a child heal me" echoed in his mind and he sank into darkness.  Moments later, he was wide awake and felt as if he were awakening from a wonderful night's sleep!  He stood up as a collective gasp echoed throughout the room (including Maxima!)  Neville looked around; everyone was staring in awe at the little girl!  In a choked whisper he heard "Why, she only begun her training in the arts this morning!"

Glancing over at Maxima, he noticed that the wound on her arm was still bleeding.  "Er... Max...  Why are you bleeding" he asked.  "I'm sorry, Nev.  I guess my Regeneration is unable to heal damage from Cimmerian steel" she replied.

Soon, the elder Cleric arrived.  "What is this?  What has transpired?"  The wise Cleric was immediately able to recognize that something remarkable had happened.  "The neophyte has healed a mortal wound, Dame Jasmin" a guard barely dared to whisper.

"Approach me" the elder Cleric demanded of the neophyte.  Placing her hand gently on the child's head, the elder Cleric closed her eyes for a few moments.  Turning her attention to Neville, she looked him in the eye and said "Approach me."  Respectfully, Neville approached the elder Cleric and allowed her to place her hand on the side of his head.  Surprisingly, nothing seemed to happen.

Suddenly, the Cleric pulled her hand away and whispered fearfully: "He is not of the Third Edition!  He is of the First Edition!  Nay!  He is of a so-called 'Revised Edition' that is new and very strange!  Our healing spells affect him differently!"

Neville had often encountered sudden, unexpected changes in behavior.  So he wasn't quite as surprised as he probably should have been.  "Er...  Yeah...  I don't usually have that effect on women, I promise" he stated awkwardly.  It was sounding more and more like Max and him needed to beat a speedy retreat to the "present!"

Headhunter and the Crystal Skull (uh-oh!)

First, a little "mystic" history:
https://www.crystalskulls.com/mitchell-hedges-crystal-skull.html

One day, while up to no good in America, Otinka (MW:3, page 10) happened to be bored in his hotel room.  He turned on the tv and browsed the on demand titles and happened upon "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)."  Naturally curious about skulls in general, he watched it and enjoyed it immensely (since he didn't have much experience with movies.)  His curiosity led him to the internet where he found out about the real skulls.  Hmmm...

Deciding to abort his current nefarious deed(s), he instead began to focus on obtaining the Mitchell-Hedges skull and finding out the secrets behind it.  Eventually, his skills obtained from his CHESS agent skull brought it into his possession.  Naturally, having a professional CHESS agent's skillset, he carefully avoided touching it until he had found a safe place to examine it.  Upon touching it, his mind EXPLODED with forbidden knowledge and secrets that had been hidden for centuries!  The first thing he learned was that the crystal skull was NO artifact!  It was actually a real skull of an extraterrestrial race that had visited Earth in the distant past!

And so it goes...

The Book of Enoch

(click)
"...ports are coming in from all across the US and Canada as well as around the world of thousands, if not millions, of people suddenly vanishing with only their clothes and other belongings remaining."

(click)
"...gressman David Marcus of the Democratic party in California is accusing Republicans of staging the disappearances in an elaborate plot to alter the results of the upcoming election."

"Some conservative groups have claimed that the Rapture, a mysterious event where millions of people disappear, has occurred."

"...sident has stated that she will deploy the National Guard if needed to maintain social order.  Vigilante groups are warned to stay alert and be ready for..."

[click]
"...our next story, a woman's dog was eaten by a beautiful angel, who then seduced her.  In her own words, here's the interv..."

(tv clicks off)

Turning from the tv, Epsilon wanders into the Valient's communications center.  He says to Serena "The news didn't have anything, Rey.  I'm getting bored already!  Those Christian nutjobs are even claiming it was the Rapture!"

Serena chuckles.  "That was the first thing I checked.  I don't have all the numbers, but I don't think it was the Rapture.  The only pattern that I've found is that there seems to be more disappearances in small towns and rural areas than in the cities.  But the number of church attendees disappearing occurred at the same rate for bigger churches and small churches.  Losing ten people might seem a lot in a small church, but in a big church you'd hardly notice."

Epsilon sighs.  "Ok, so you have the numbers that say the same thing I was saying" he retorts.  "Now, what?  Weapon?  Teleportation?  It hit the entire planet from all sides at the same time, so it has to be networked somehow.  It affected people underground all the way up to the space station.  There didn't seem to be anything that blocked the effect or otherwise prevented a person from disappearing.  Plenty of footage of people simply disappearing while their clothes and stuff fall to the floor.  No flashes.  No explosions.  In fact, instruments being used near a disappearance registered absolutely nothing spiking on the electromagnetic spectrum.  And that's NOT being reported in the news, by the way, so be careful during your interviews!  To me, this sounds like an extra-terrestrial or extra-dimensional origin.  Oh, and don't forget 'naked!'"

"I'm sure you won't" Serena replies while rolling her eyes.

Then the phone rings.  Only this time it was the OTHER one that's not supposed to ring.  Epsilon and Serena look at each and then back at the phone.  Then Serena shrugs and answers.  "Valiant Headquarters, Serena speaking."

"I need to see both of you, now.  A car is on the way.  Wait outside for it to arrive" an authoritative voice says, followed by a click as the connection closes.  Serena looks at the phone, questioningly.  "That wasn't exactly how I pictured it would happen" she says, bemusedly.  "Well, what happened" Epsilon asks excitedly.  "We wait outside for a car to pick us up" Serena replies.  "He didn't say anything else."

GM notes:
This is basically an alien invasion plot using the book of Enoch as a basis.  The "aliens" arrive shortly after the "Rapture" and claim that they were trying to get to Earth to warn of an impending attack by another race of extremely powerful and evil aliens.  Regrettably, they didn't make it in time.  The opposite turns out to be true: the Rapture really happened and the "aliens," are actually demonic extra-dimensional beings.  After the Rapture, Earth's spiritual defenses collapsed and the aliens were able to reach us.  Thousands of years ago, these aliens had come to our universe through the only portal that connects our universes.  Which just happened to be on Earth (go figure!)  After a terrible struggle, they were banished from the Earth and a "spiritual defense" system was deposited within the souls of certain people in each generation.  This defense prevented the invading aliens from reaching Earth and prevented their brethren from coming through the portal.  It also had the unexpected side effect of causing spiritual evolution in humans.

For non-Christians, the concept of the "Rapture" can be modified slightly to specify the victims as "spiritually evolved people from all religions who were knowingly or unknowingly providing some sort of extra-dimensional defense to planet Earth."  No matter how you define your "Rapture," these people transformed to the next stage of their spiritual evolution and should be considered gone permanently.  Once the invading aliens set up relations with all of the world governments and make agreements to end war, advance technology, create Utopia, etc. then they'll start kidnapping certain humans that might be spiritually evolved enough to restart Earth's spiritual defenses.  They'll also want to experiment on them to determine why humans are spiritually evolving at all.  Fortunately, their nefarious experiments unlock the spiritual potential in these abductees.  After being rescued (your players aren't just going to sit back and let the aliens take over their job, are they?), these people will form a new group of Watchers so that the GM can have someone fresh to meddle with the players from time to time!  This time, they'll assist in sending the invaders back to their own dimension and closing the portal forever (until the next time, at least.)

The "aliens" are "Sapien Angels."  This means that they appear as the pinnacle physical and social specimens of humanity of any race.

Oh, and don't forget the fact that once the Rapture happens the portal is unlocked as well.

The Day After, a week later

The room was jam-packed with journalists, all of them eager to hear the young vigilante tell the world how he had saved one of the planes in the terrorist attack the previous week.

"Walter Burns, Truth Seeker Weekly.  Can you tell us how you happened to be on the plane when it was hijacked?"

"Er...  I'm sorry, I have no comment on that" the vigilante replies.

"Jessica Anderson, WCTV news.  How did you manage to pull off such an incredible feat with a plane that was incapable of flying like that?"

"Good afternoon, Ms. Anderson.  It's a pleasure to see you, again.  Well, to answer your question, I'll have to respectfully disagree with the engineers who are claiming that a passenger plane can't perform that maneuver" chuckling lightly.   Suddenly, the vigilante grips the podium and gasps, staring off into space.  Everyone in the room looks on in confusion, unsure of what's happening.  After a few moments, the vigilante sighs and releases the podium.  "I'm sorry, next question...?"

"Shelley Marks, WCVG news.  What's it like to fly a passenger plane at over five hundred miles per hour through downtown Manhattan?"

After a brief pause, the vigilante quietly replies.  "It was terrifying.  I'm still having flashbacks."

"Copcicles!"  Lol!  Whoops!  Did I plug a former seed?!   Cheesy

What Was Discovered in Kincaid’s Cave in the Grand Canyon?

Published July 20, 2016
Cheyenne Reed

Kincaid’s Cave in the Grand Canyon is a legendary place that no one can access nor see today. What mysterious artifacts did he and the Smithsonian claim to find? Was there an advanced ancient civilization inhabiting the Grand Canyon long before Native Americans? Let’s find out.

(picture: the Phoenix Gazette, circa 1909)

The article begins with an eye-catching headline on the first page and continues onto several other pages. It exclaims “Explorations in Grand Canyon.” Below, in only slightly smaller lettering it reads, “Mysteries of Immense Rich Cavern Being Brought To Light” and then “Remarkable Finds Indicate Ancient People Migrated From Orient.” This headline suggests that history as we know it might be drastically different than we had believed it to be for thousands of years. It attracted more than a little attention, to say the least.

G.E Kincaid was well-known for being an explorer and hunter. On the day that he would make his stunning discovery, however, he was simply on a routine expedition, floating the Colorado River and looking for minerals. Kincaid was all by himself when he noticed “stains” way up on the wall of the canyon above him. For whatever reason, he decided to do some unplanned exploring. Whatever he saw must have particularly motivated him. Because Kincaid hiked until he was 2,000 feet above the river – only 1,500 feet below the rim at that point. Eventually, he came to the mouth of a cave.

The adventurer he was, Kincaid could not turn away from his discovery. Instead, he began to descend down the stairs he found just inside the mouth of the cave. He continued down about 100 feet. The tunnel that Kincaid followed appeared to have been hand-chiseled. Which is an incredible feat considering it was several hundred feet long.

According to his own personal journal, where he described his discoveries, he came upon a crypt full of mummies. Each with their own personal shelf. He reportedly took notes and photographs and collected several artifacts before leaving. Along with the news of his discovery, he shipped these artifacts to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C., where he had a number of contacts.

This is according to the Phoenix Gazette article, anyway. By the time their front-page article was published, the team of scientists had explored Kincaid’s cave much more thoroughly. More passageways extended from the main one that Kincaid had originally entered. These lead to multiple rooms as wide as thirty or forty feet. A stone idol was reportedly found. The statue resembled Buddha.

Traveling nearly a mile into the rock, the researchers came across a huge room with many passageways leading away from it. Similar to the spokes of a wagon wheel. They described storerooms full of seeds. As well as a dining room more than 700 feet long and a room that stank of a “deadly, snaky smell. Archaeologists supposedly uncovered copper instruments and war weapons, cups made of gold, pottery work, and hieroglyphic writing. These artifacts suggested an origin not in this country, but in the Orient.

The long story on the front page of the Phoenix Gazette clearly indicated that the Smithsonian Institute had sent between thirty and forty archaeologists to help Kincaid excavate he discover. Today though, there are no artifacts or information to be found about the underground settlement. One Smithsonian rep explained that “… no Egyptian artifacts of any kind have ever been found in North or South America. Therefore, I can tell you that the Smithsonian Institute has never been involved in any such excavations.” Then what could have prompted such an incredibly detailed newspaper article? One that never had a follow-up piece.

Based on the descriptions of Kincaid’s cave discoveries, they would suggest that there had in fact been contact made before Columbus sailed the seas. Not only this, but it would call into question the idea that all Native Americans descended from Ice Age explorers who crossed the Bering Strait.

Egyptians in Arizona would require us not only to entirely rewrite history but also to accept responsibility for being incredibly wrong about the origins of people on our continent. Is it a coincidence that many rock formations in the area have Egyptian names like Tower of Ra, Horus Temple, Osiris Temple, and Isis Temple? Probably.

Some people speculate even more broadly, questioning if this settlement wasn’t evidence of ancient aliens. The area where Kincaid’s cave discovery is believed to be located is off-limits to hikers, visitors, and even most park personnel. Reportedly, this if for safety reasons.
