Seems more like a Psionic ability to me, with a built in "Radius" effect, Wink  and low self control for a weakness.

I was scratching my head at this until I got halfway through the movie and realized what you were referring to!

I was thinking along those lines, but I couldn't figure out how to turn "Death Touch" into "Death Radius."  Good one!
