Dick Dante was sitting in his reading room, enjoying a nice cup of tea when the phone rang.   It was Carter Manning.

He explained that mysterious lights were seen emanating from the Marinas Trench.  Also  an undersea earthquake caused a tsunami that overturned ships and killed thousands of people.   He said that he would like Dante's help investigating.  He said that Manta Man would check out all scientific avenues, while Dante would cover the supernatural.

Due to the extreme stormy conditions,  Carter asked Dante if he could enlist the aid of Stormbringer.

So after the two heroes were recruited,  they were flown to the home of the Crusaders,  San Diego.

They were met by Manta Man at his Manta Foil, a large ship with a crew of five.   They took off for Guam, and from there they headed southwest to the Trench.

All the while Dante lectured the team about the ancient civilizations that existed thousands of years ago.

Stormbringer wondered why  Manta Man didn't bring the Crusaders for help?  What was going on with that?

The ship hit a storm and reduced speed.  Stormbringer dispersed the storm, only to see that it reformed.  Stormbringer remembered that this happened once before, when he fought Tempest on Prince Drakker Island.  Could this be them?  Oh no..

Then almost too quick to see, a creature lept on the boat and cracked the neck of one of the crewmen.   Stormbringer hit it with a bolt of lighting.  It stopped moving and he could see it was the Fishwife.  Darn, the Deep Six.  This undersea team of criminals almost beat them last time, and they had more than three heroes.

Manta Man went out to investigate the strange sailing ship in the eye of the storm.      Stormbringer and Dick Dante fought the Fishwife.

They heard a voice from nowhere, and Dante realized that the astral form of his old foe, Dr. Nadir was onboard.   What?   He teamed up with the Deep  Six?   This is bad.

Fishwife proved to be a stronger foe than they thought, as she was taking lighting strike after lighting strike.   She bit another crewmember.  Dante tried healing the fallen sailer, but then Fishwife slashed his face.

Stormbringer spotted Man O War trying to climb into the ship and he turned the storm into a blizzard.  He then compressed all of the blizzard into a small soft ball and unleashed it at Man O War, who froze solid.

Dick Dante hurled Fishwife to the bow of the ship, but she then bit his shoulder.

Dr. Nadir summoned  the mighty Sub Human to the craft who then grabbed Dante by the throat with his newly grafted crab pincher.   Stormbringer used his devitalization blast as a radius and drained everyone of energy.  But the timing was off.   Sub Human snapped Dr. Richard Dante's head from his body, causing it to plop into the sea.   Fishwife, flopped into the water, taking the head to the murky depths of the ocean.

Stormbringer, being the only one left alive on the ship, summoned a cavalcade of lighting strikes and blew up the ship.  he flew over to the schooner and couldn't find Manta Man.

He saw Jolly Roger at the wheel, with Tempest in the crow's nest.   The ship was manned by the undead.    Stormbringer did what he could.  He created a hurricane and capsized the boat.  He flew around and saw Manta Man escape from the brig.  The two flew off to  Guam to recoup.

Sorry Dick, but it was fate it seems.

At least that's what I'll keep telling myself Wink

No worries Paul. Fate is absolutely correct and I will bump up a few threads to reference exactly why.

Decapitation is most certainly going to slow Dick down a bit but he really did need some "Me" time to work on some Spell Theory

Colonel Marshal Strong was sitting before Congress testifying about CHESS’s activities.  After a three week grueling televised hearing, he was exonerated, but CHESS was decommissioned.   Effective immediately all CHESS files were too passed to Homeland Security along with all equipment and monies.
Strong called all four Royals and told them this.  Dick Manlove and Nina Ramone of CHESS White responded with an affirmative.  CHESS Black Queen Betty Noir didn’t respond, and Tony Montgomery, the Black King responded with “Operation Checkmate.”     Strong knew that he was in the process of burning all files that could compromise himself or his agents.    He also knew that by the time he got to the Black Mesa, all CHESS black personal, along with all equipment and files would be gone.

While traveling to Utah, Strong was told that the navy was sent to respond to a tidal way in the Pacific.  Stormbringer and Dick Dante went to investigate the locus of the undersea earthquake, Stormbringer went to Japan after a battle with the underwater villain team, the Deep Six.  He also reported the death of Dick Dante, who was beheaded.

Strong flew to Guam and then commissioned a helicopter over the locus.  He found the capsized hydrofoil used by Stormbringer and Dante.   While searching it he was attacked by a giant squid.  He defeated the squid with his knife.  He was then greeted by Mr. Universe, an Alpha level Meta human.   Mr. Universe has been an ally of CHESS in the past but he was reported as KIA during the battle with Omnipotep.

Mr. Universe hugged Strong and offered him the love of The Mother.  Strong feigned interest and they both submerged.

Unknown to Strong, Captain Warlock was battling to free himself from the gullet of the sea serpent that swallowed him.    He blasted his way free and battled the creature, tearing its eyes out with telekinetic blasts.

The creature retreated to the depths.

Strong saw the light created by Glidvir, the hammer of the deceased god, Modi.   He saw that Warlock was now wielding it, also wearing Thor’s belt, and glove.   This is a potential problem, Warlock being a Moevian and all.

Mr. Universe said he had to dispatch Warlock as he would not accept Mother’s love.  As he was about to fire two blasts of cosmic energy from his eyes, Marshal Strong twisted Mr. Universe’s neck, cracking it.   The head spun around and blasted Marshal Strong full in the face.

Warlock, who was unsure what to do, as he considered both men to be his foes,  decided to help Strong who just tried to save his life.

Warlock first made telepathic contact with all life in two mile radius.  He picked up numerous intelligent minds thousands of feet below him, along with three super intelligent minds.  One of which was godlike.     He panicked a bit.

Strong used his knife and slashed away at Mr. Universe.   Captain Warlock swung his hammer and the force of the blow released Mr. Universe’s head from his shoulders.     Captain Warlock grabbed Marshal Strong and covered him in his shelter cloak and they both rose to the surface.
Marshall Strong completed his search of the boat, as Captain Warlock righted it up.   Strong found Dick Dante’s ring that was wedged in a partially crushed door.   That was a bit of luck...

The due decided to catch their breath on the drifting boat and plan their next move.
