What you should expect

DF's post on what he expects, got me thinking, and I figured I'd let you guys know how I run things. First off, while I may be the GM, and it's my jog to make sure things run smoothly, and to provide you guys with a challenge, I'm not here trying to kill anyone off. I want you to have fun, and get a chance to enjoy yourselves. I want your input on what your character's future goals and ambitions are, and I'll try to work them into game at some point.

I also like to through you curve balls every now and again, just to keep things interesting, and to provide a challenge. Another thing I've done, in the past, and plan to keep doing is to give my villains some actual personality. I don't like to see the villain of the weak show up, rob the local, bank, and run off with the cash, as that gets old. I try to actually make them interesting, not of them them are "villains", in the actual since, as you discover. Some of them are out for the same goals as the heroes, but have chosen to go about it in a way that society doesn't accept. Others are just flat out evil, and you'll be running across your share of them also, so try different approaches.

I also try to give everyone a chance at the spotlight. If one or two characters are always the ones coming off as the stars, the other players loose interest. So hopefully, I'll be able to keep everyone entertained.

And lastly, I'd like develop a stable of NPCs for you guys to interact with. I find that they keep a game interesting and provide you with a life outside of adventuring, so expect several of them to be introduced within the first few issues. I've already tried to drop a few hints as to who several of them might be, but you'll have to wait until next week to get more info. So until then, I'd like to hear you guys thoughts on this.

This what I am looking for.  I see roleplaying (especially PBEM) like joint story crafting.  If all I wanted to go from fight to fight then I would be camped in front of Freedom Force vs The Third Reich.

So villains that are more than  dice targets sounds great.  NPCs that I interact with sounds interesting as well.

I am always empressed with the roleplaying games where the PCs develop relationships (including marriage) with NPCs which bring real change and meaning to who the character is.

I do admit I also like a more light hearted fair.  No solving the wealth distrubtion problems in America.  While that could be the goal of the Villain, I don't want the goal of the gaming to be for me as a person to reconsider my personal beliefs or motivations.  I hope I made sense?  Emphasis on fun, not using comics to mirror todays problems as an allegory.

V&V character creation is too much fun.

While I do mix in real world elements, I'm not trying to duplicate the real world. In past games (V&V; Champions - my longest running supers game; and M&M), I've introduced things like drug use, teenage runaways, child pornographers, etc. but I'm not trying to hit you over the head with it, or force my religious and/or political beliefs on you guys. Hopefully everyone's cool with that.

But I'll also be honest, if I have a "problem child" player, who likes to make things difficult, or starts to "spotlight" (force the game to focus on his actions, to the detriment of the other players), and can be a bit of an ass. You'll suddenly find yourself tied up in court getting sued, your civilian ID will get an IRS audit, your car will break down, some breaks in and steals your laptop (you know the one where you keep all the team's info stored), etc.

But, on the same note, I'm not God, and I don't know everything, I'm willing to take suggestions, and one the "rare" occasion, I may even make a change (I just chalk it up to a retcon) to a previous storyline if it helps move the game along. Sound cool?

Sounds good. I expect the GM to through curve balls as much as the GM should expect us to throw him curve balls. (it's only fair..  Grin )

As far as rule calls and game balance, you can expect me to think you're God and I'll comply to your ruling. As far as any in game actions, well that's all a big communal thing as far as I"m concerned.

If I can get the last two characters (hint, hint), we can kick this off next week.

yeah yeah..

I'll be good tomorrow night, once I have this big presentation done and over with.

It'll be an hour or so to do a write up and think up enough plot hooks that I can look like a schlep from Hellraiser.

This sounds like the best way to play. As a GM i don't care if my players know the game mechanics, I want good story. As a player I like it even more cause I can focus on getting into the characters head and writing a good story

If something seems to good to be true, it's best to shoot it,just to be safe
