I think that falls under BSI.  Bureau of Special Investigations... cause meta-human affairs falls under the 'special investigations'.  But I could be wrong.

T-Bolt is correct. BSI is the government agency tasked with dealing with everything anything dealing with meta/super humans. I'm also going to be posting a bit of info on a BSI offshoot called SIGIL that deals with supernatural threats.

Yeah.  Asking for some advice Dom... I got stuff I want to write for Thunderbolt's Year one entries..but my problem is.. it all comes out REALLY long!  I like details.. and the short clipped entries that Ranger makes I envy.  I got too much to say.  Any advice?  I'm sure no one here wants to see a novella of my bad writing!

Write what you want to write, but if you want to cut down on what you post, I'd suggest write it out in Word, wait a day, read back over it, and see if you can cut the length down.

If you are writing for yourself then there is no reason to hold back. If you are writing something you want others to enjoy reading then, the most important thing ... Is to write in a fashion that entertains your target audience and leaves them wanting to read the next installment.

Give just enough details each installment that they connect to the character and what is going on without being bogged down in the minutea. The character's third grade teachers name is likely too much. Once you've written the installment ... I suggest you follow Dom's advice ... and then see how long it takes to actually read it. If it's more than a couple minutes you've likely lost your audience. Just the nature of the beast in this particular forum of presentation.

Hope that helps. I have always tried to write Rollins Journal as my way of exploring the character's personality. If others have enjoyed them then that kind of cool too. Wink

I know I have glommed onto the BSI and a few other tidbits but I and maybe the others are reserved in their use in hopes the Protector game will restart at some point. If it restarts at the point we stopped it especially feels inappropriate for a few to get to creative I imagine.

That said I've stripped my character of his powers and not exactly sure where I'm going to take that but having fun with Skyhawk and Jason Rollins current interplay. Even I don't want to stray to deep into waters without GM nod of approval though Smiley

I feel the same Ranger. I don't want to do something that mucks up what Dom has going on. I tend to stick to more of his personal life for that reason.

I am enjoying the interplay as well. Smiley

I'd agree on the timeline stuff, I wasn't sure where we were, and if or when we'd pick back up... I've actually been going back, reprinting some older posts that I didn't think the newer team members had read, but I have been planning on writing some current/alternate stuff.  Thanks for permission to use your world.

Well in that case.

Just if anyone is interested. The stuff I've been writing for Jason Rollins takes place approximately six months after the Protectors encounter with the (alien?) robots outside of Jonestown. That's a vague enough time to account for any changes in the characters or "current events" any of us might want to use for stories. I've avoided specifics mentioning others characters unless I've recieved permission from the player.

And yes Jason has lost the superpowers of Rampart due to a mysterious reaction that might be associated to being teleported. It's an ongoing story tied into his origin and other events. When or if he gets his powers back depends on (much desired GM input) and how the story developes.

Okay, I've posted some info on the X-29 making a "secret" test flight, and deliberately left who the pilot/crew members were open (cough, cough), and you know these experimental flights, with untested equipment never seem to work out the way they intended them to. So I wouldn't find it all that unusual for say, an accident to a certain former USAF pilot of ours. (hint, hint).

On the university front, I'm hearing that EC University has recently come across a number of Medieval artifacts rumored to have some sort mystical qualities to them, and may ask for the assistance of Professor you all are acquainted with.

ECPD's upper echelon is up in arms over the number of Boosters running the streets of the city, and has ordered The MCU to crack down on the regular suspects and squeeze them for information on the source of the drug. I'm sure they wouldn't mind a bit of help from a certain electromagnetic martial artist, if he chose to lend a hand.

BSI's resident "liaison" Mr. Smith has been more smug than usual, constantly strutting around with the cat that ate the canary look on his face, he's up to something, and I wouldn't put it past ECU's favorite handy man to start doing a little digging with his former contacts to find out exactly what.

And from what I overheard, Karen Frost has been experiencing some debilitating headaches of late, and her doctor has recommended that she check in with the Hillcrest Treatment Center, as they've recently began a series of new drug trials for a new drug that might help with them. I'm sure that it'll all work out well in the end.  Wink

I've also heard some reports of a bow welding vigilante operating in a neighborhood very familiar to a armor wearing hero several of you may know. He's already taken out close to half a dozen of the neighborhood's wise guys in the past couple of months. MCU is aware of the issue, but has more pressing matters to deal with, so it's been pushed to the back burner until they can free up some personnel. The local "businessmen", on the other hand are nervous, and have reportedly brought in some "help" to deal with what's becoming a serious problem.

Okay people, here's the deal. I'm hoping that by the end of the month I'll finally get to the point where I can commit to getting this game up and running again, but with that said, if I do, I'm going to have to make a few changes in the way I run things. I'll get with your guys and let you know what some time next week.

Until then, if you're still interested in playing, go back re-read over this material, take some notes, ask some questions, and if you feel like posting some fiction, feel free.

So.. Dsummer.. are you going to skip the resolution of the last and First Full Team Caper?  How did that end... did we get any xp or awarded Charisma points for being heroic from dealing with the aliens and saving the innocents?

How long will have passed between the last Caper and the restart?

Does Thunderbolt have time to us some invention points?

I'll work everything out and post what's what over the next few weeks. until then, you guys should talk amongst yourselves, get everyone up to speed, and figure out any group dynamics you want to work out. Also, re-read over the various "news articles" and tid bits I've posted, as there's actually quite a good bit of clues tossed in for those of you paying attention.

I've tried to keep up with most of the new stuff as they were posted but I've been pretty brain-dead recently. I probably would notice a clue if the butler hit me hit me with a hammer in the kitchen pantry Smiley

This is starting to sound serious I suppose I better get some real thought to what we want Capt. Rollins to look like when he gets back into the hero a game Smiley

Quick archetype rundown ...
Battle suit check
crime fighter check(?)
Energy controller check and check(?)
Gadgeteer check
Mystic check

Let me see that leaves us with the speedster, the warrior/martial artist, shape shifter, psychic, powerhouse and the paragon now that Rollins is at the moment depowered. Pretty sure Dom doesn't care about filling niches but it's an interesting way to start the process.

Thanks to a message from Hawk I think I'll continue this as an OOC conversation in Jason Rollins journal

Ok.. no answers thus far... kinda says to me we ARE skipping that engagement with the Robot/Aliens.  Pity, Shawn would have liked to get a chance to do some analysis of their tech and gear.  Ah well.

So... discussions.

Thunderbolt will join the Protectors... and try to be a readily available team member.  If pushed he will reveal his Identity to Power Chord... with the understanding not to share that with anyone else.  TB has family to protect and he is not sure how trustworthy the BSI is, nor if they have any agents on the take with the local Lionetti Mafia.

Thunderbolt has the Team Communicator that Machinist handed him so he will use that to keep in touch with the Protectors.  But he would suggest to the Machnist that the communicators be upgraded to be able to perform the same functions as modern smart-phones... take pictures, GPS, text messages, record video and sound...all for the purpose of giving the team the ability to collect and record vital evidence for the authorities to have proper prosecution material for the criminals the Protectors will apprehend.

As a sign of 'good-faith' with BSI and the MCU 'major crimes unit'... Thunderbolt will get that .05cal Desert Eagle he carries registered to his Thunderbolt identity... not his real ID, so if it's ballistics show up in any crime.. they can be traced back to him.  The gun itself has never been used in a crime and is not registered because it was a custom handmade manufacture {not by Thunderbolt}.  He took it from a Yakuza Gang Boss who was so proud that it was untraceable... and had wanted to kill Thunderbolt with it as the gun's first 'kill'! TB just took it from him and kept it as one of his own weapon options.  To note Thunderbolt could just keep carrying the gun without saying anything.. but it kinda bother's his conscience.. his dad was a cop and he knows gun registration laws are there for a REASON so wants to follow the laws as much as possible... but he also knows.. there are those in the law who would use his Real ID against him and those he cares about he can't take that risk.  But he is willing to meet this far half ways so an unregistered gun is out there..even if in the hands of a hero/vigilante.

For his own gear... Thunderbolt is going to modify his 2 metal Kyogetsu-Shoge.  He feels that their extreme length could be a problem if things get dicy ...so he is going to build a spring loaded spool assembly for both of them.. so that their normal length is about 6'ft.. with each spool at the center about 3'ft form the ends. The spools can reel out of retract their individual full lengths of 80'ft.  He will also refine their cables so they are a bit more compact but retain their 1,000lb capacity.  This is for ease of use should he not have access to his magnetic control powers for some reason.. a 80'ft long Kyogetsu-Shoge is kinda uselessly awkward to a martial artist like him.  I have already posted some where that Thunderbolt would like to refine his armor to provide a bit more protection and he's working on his particle accelerator gun.

Thunderbolt would like to get a chance to work with Diesel on his steam powered armor... and would like to suggest another function for his armor.. Steam powered Jump Jets!  So the big suit could get around a little more quickly.  Kinda like the jump-jets on the Starship Trooper powered armor.. he can 'on-the-bounce' jump large distances though not really sustained flight.  He will also work with Diesel to perfect their magnetic 'fastball special with a hammer on top'... maneuver so Diesel and thunderbolt have some practice with Thunderbolt picking up the metal suit with magnetism and hurling it with Diesel swinging his hammer at the target at the end!  For the team Thunderbolt would like to give everyone a simple metal mesh shoulder harness... almost like a shoulder holster-rig, that when needed would allow Thunderbolt to lift and carry team members either to a fight or out of harms way without him having to use his kyogetsu to wrap them for carrying purposes.  They would not need to wear it all the time... but having it with them would be convenient should the non-fliers need to be able to keep up or carried to battle.  As for team tactics... Thunderbolt likes to fly above a battle and apply his magnetic control as needed to hinder and confound the enemy attacking with metal objects in the surrounding area or his own array of metal weapons... in support of team efforts.  Yes, he can fire lightning bolts but he rarely does it considering how lethal those attacks can be.  He likes to use only measured force to subdue foes.  So he is more of a controller supporting the efforts of others though he can take direct hand in battle he likes to keep his options open.  Considering as "I" the player have seen the Protectors work in the past Power Chord usually plays that role.. so Thunderbolt would practice with Power Chord a set series of signals to trade off both of them doing the same between support, offense and defensive actions to coordinate team efforts.  Thunderbolt is quite fine with bowing to Power Chord's overall team leadership.

Other than that ...Thunderbolt continues putting the pressure on the Lionetti family hitting their bank accounts messing with their power utilities... using his machine control to ruin their financial records and assets of all operations that continue to push this 'Boost' drug!  He meant it when he told 'Anvil' he was going to war on the Lionetti family and that he would hurt them in their pocket... by destroying or taking their wealth until they STOPPED pushing 'Boost'!  He will add to this stealing vital data in bank accounts and incriminating evidence that he 'anonymously' donates to BSI and the MCU.

V&V doesn't have lethal killing damage except for DeathTouch and that doesn't work half the time.  Lightning Control wouldn't kill the average teenager except under most unusual circumstances. I'm not saying powers can't kill but game mechanics make it a stretch at low levels unless special rules are used. And seriously I can't even keep a straight face when I picture some guy telling me he shot the bad guy with a freaking Desert Eagle because it was less lethal than using my powers LOL. Here's a fiver pal go buy a roll of nickels or something.

The ideals about the weapons sounds like a bunch of convoluted rationalism. Guns and Powers? It really is a remnant of bad Iron Age comic book ideals. You can fancy up the wording all you want but take something as simple and thin as two 80ft pieces of  twine wrap them up then put them on your shoulders run around a little bit and see what it looks like. No one not named Batman is hiding that kind of stuff.

Most glaring ... is you don't want your character to trust team members with his secret identity but he wants them to trust him to have control over their bodies with his steel mesh shoulder rig. Dress it up as wanting to help the team but sounds like more of I want more power and control, pay attention to me ideas.

Your basic character concept has got potential but at the moment, the way you present him makes him a bit obnoxious. But hey, if that is what you're going for though, then by all means roll on
